There's just nothing like removing the dark glass from a dead Tempest game and getting your first glimpse of the monitor glass and seeing a perfect, burn-free tube. Ah.....breath it in.....

I can see some burn there, though it is nicer than any vector display I have. Here is a color invert version for your viewing pleasure / displeasure:

Cleanest WG6100 tube I have ever seen...congrats! And from a Tempest! It must have been broken...

and the sound fo you necking it while working on it.. sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Yep...I've actually done that once. Fortunately, it was a WG4600 not a 6100. But it was still a @#!*% .

I'm still not seeing it. Perhaps I need to look at it under ultraviolet light to detect it. But man, if it's true I am so disappointed!

Fixed....

( you asked for it )

:) Well I got to experience that one recently as well! Not with a Tempest though.

This one is destined to get a BR Deluxe rebuild kit and hopefully it will fire up. I think I'll just put it back in the little Tempest cabaret. The 6100's in my other games all look pretty darn good already. I'll have to eyeball them all closely though.

squint at it. if you look hard enough, you can see the "tempest" across the screen about 1/3 down from the top, and below that the (c) ATARI MCMLXXXI

Looks very NICE, I would take that monitor any day!!!

I agree - I wasn't trying to say anything bad about it, only pointing out that it wasn't "perfect" as described. It is very very close, and you should still feel extrememly happy with it.

If not, then sell it to me (cheap though, because I'm a cheapskate...) -- I'd love to have it!

its nicer than 95% out there(nicer than 99% of all tempest), but in the regular photo, you can see the words tempest, the tube image marks and a spot killer dot( or someone turned it up too bright)..

Well good news and bad news:

When I got the game it was playing blind so figured it was most likely a monitor issue (since it usually is with k6100 games). So I bought the big giant Bob Roberts Deluxe 6100 repair kit and an LV2000 and set to work shotgunning the thing. Man that kit is huge. Anyway, got it all done and hooked it up and all I got was 2 little tiny quarter-inch vectors near the middle of the screen sitting there at weird angles. Hmmmm. And the spot killer light was flickering like a mad man. Once in a while I would get a few other little glitchy looking vectors here and there as well. Argh....

So I plugged the thing into my other Tempest game and fired it up. The monitor came up absolutely beautiful. A bit of adjusting of focus and brightness and yes....very nice.

So now I either have a cpu board issue or a power issue or something on the cabaret Tempest. Was hoping to have it fixed in time to try to sell at CAX. I guess I could throw my working board in there and sell it but then I won't have another set to cross-test with. Oh well. A day in the life!
