Yesterday I was having some friends and family over for a little hangout and while one of my friends was playing Star Wars he says, "uh oh, the screen went out."

I walked over, and the game continued to play blind but the screen was totally dark. I've never worked on any of the color vector monitors, so I'm not sure where to jump in. He said the screen kind of shrank and then went out when it happened.

I was so happy to have everything at 100% working condition. Too bad it didn't last...but honestly, does it ever? ;)

What is this "everything at 100% working condition" you speak of? :hmmmm2:

:) For a short time it might but it's never sustained... that's for sure.

Bad deal, Jar. That seriously sucks.

The Vectors can be a real pain in the ass. I hope it's something minor.

(If not, just MAME the hell out of it!)

;)

Get yourself an LV2000 kit & a Zanen "Get Well" kit & install them both. That's how I've fixed a handful of color vector monitors over the years...I have no idea what part(s) actually did the fix, but they worked...

Which monitor do you have? I've had a lot of recent experience with the Amplifone, so may be able to help there.

A few initial questions:

- Do you still have HV? If you don't have an HV probe, you can check for 180V at video B+.
- Can you hear deflection board chatter when the game is running?
- Presumably the spot killer LED isn't active(?)
- Assuming the deflection seems to work and you have HV, can you see anything if you briefly turn up the brightness to a point where you'd normally see inactive lines? Because I always forget myself, I'll suggest the obvious: mark the position first so that you can put the setting right if you don't see anything.
