51 now. Fuck, I've been here 1/3 of my life. When I first joined, I had a two-year-old daughter. Now she's turning 20 and I've got two sons that are in middle and high school. Life comes at you fast.
Heh, same here. When I joined KLOV, our first son was (1) or (2). He turns (20) next month. Our 2nd is about to turn (17). How naive of me to think they'd love these old games like their old man, when I set out on this arcade collecting journey.

Wow. That is cool some of you have been here since then. I was like 3-4 years out of college in 2005 and I think that was the year I built my MAME cabinet out of my old TV and PC. I never would have even dreamed or thought it was possible back then to own an actual arcade cab or pin.

Looking at the responses, it's interesting how the demographics tended towards younger people (39 and below), that may not have lots of disposable income, starting out their careers, being in school or raising families... Probably because games were so cheap back then. The majority being $500 or less and often local grabs.

I just disassembled mine this past weekend. MAME was a GREAT stepping stone which led to serious collecting. Way better than an Arcade 1Up as a start! LOL.

You know what's funny? I kept some old emails and stuff related to that MAME build. I was just looking thru it and reminiscing. It looks like I had bought some stuff I needed for that build from Bob Roberts! I mailed him a check apparently. i do miss that cab but yeah it was the gateway drug for sure.

I think MAME boxes really are the gateway drug nowadays to this ridiculous hobby we find ourselves in.

I will be 29 at the end of next month.

I was feeling badly about selecting the radio button that put me in the oldest bracket (50+), I couldn't imagine that I was the old man in the group (51).
Then I realized the OP started this Poll in 2005, and was likely a few months shy of joining me by now! :D
