Aftermarket fight sticks...

There have been several threads related to this, this one being the 'best,' I guess.

I play SSFIV everyday. The one you posted I've heard is good. People tend to want to "upgrade" it by installing sanwa sticks and buttons, which I think are a direct drop-in anyway.

I used the PS3 Hori stick for a while, hacked a Sanwa stick to it:

Shortly after I just laid out for the Madcatz TE stick:

Much better. Sits comfortably in your lap while your playing, the extra heft helps keep it stable. It's more the size of the base than the sanwa butttons or sticks that make a difference, IMO. You can probably grab one used and replace the stick and buttons if you're trying to save money. But they are worth the $120ish price, new IMO, compared to the $80 or so people are trying to sell them for used. The sub-$50 ones people want to mod, and add weight to, if you want plug and play, and you'll be playing more than just once a week, just get the TE stick.

In a similar vein, has anyone tried the Fightpads? I'm thinking of getting one (no room for a full stick) and can't find too many reviews from trusted sources such as KLOV.

Is there a thread for fightpads as well as fightsticks?

And in case people recommend just Googling it, I have read the following reviews online already:
http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/reviews/review.pl?sys=hardware&game=madcatz_fightpad

But what I am asking is do any of YOU have one of these fightpads and if so, what your opinion is? Has a forum thread already discussed the fighhtpads and does anyone have the link, etc. etc.

thanks for all your input guys! Ive done some research and am still confused on which one I should buy for PC as I would be using it mostly for MAME...It seems as if they BOTH have problems with drivers ETC.

I got both my hori ex2 and SFTE stick to work in mame. its a pain. Theres drivers called XBCD I believe. google search "can not set absolute mode for Dead or alive joystick" you should find it after a bit of searching

If I make a dedicated cab I will put together my own controls but for now Im seeking a temporary solution...
As far as your driver issue was it for a 360 or ps3 stick?

My Hori EX2 Xbox 360 stick was easy to set up in Windows XP. Run an installation file and edit an .ini file. I guess it's all perspective, though.

Drivers are out there for PS3 controllers to work on Windows XP. IIRC someone posted one on shoryuken.com or one of those other forums. Never had a need for them, but hopefully they are just point and click easy.

On the other hand, the same EX2 controller was plug and play in Windows 7. I have not tried my PS3 TE stick on Windows 7 yet, I've heard it works. I will plug it in if I get a chance. I used to play A LOT of MAME using that EX2 stick before I built my MAME cab, and I still use the EX2 controller with a laptop for MAME while traveling. As linked earlier in the thread, add a Sanwa octagonal restrictor to it for simultaneous 4 and 8 way gaming. If you can get them working, for $50 for that or the madcatz, you can't beat the value compared to the offerings from Xarcade or even Hanaho.

There all plug and play. Mine was for xbox however the mame with kailera net client does not do pov. Hat joysticks. If u dnt want online then ur fine
