hey just just got an afterburner with an ab2 boardset in it. Supposdly working perfectly. The more i play it the mnore i realize something is wrong. Im missing several sounds, the jet exhaust is just blue, when i crash its just blue, background looks funny at time, even at the high score save screen i get a bunch of odd lines therough half the image I am sure this is not a monitor issue. When i go to crt test i have all my colors and they look ok.

. These lines sometimes appear on the arrract screen as well. ran a self test (memory test) and all says ok.

bad rom? krappy connection? i dunnno.. oh also while not in play i get a continous staticky noise**after testing all sounds it seems im missing a copuple voice sounds and the afterburner noise is my staticky noise. After selftest it sticks on if that makes any sense... My shaker is also not working. but thats another issue im sure.

wtf man. Here i get another game and im not in much better shape then where it was before.

i guess its time to pull the cage(how the feek do i get it out of there???) and reseat all the chips and hope for the best..
+5 is at 5.2 at the switcher. wtf have i done to piss off the arcade gods, i really dont know.

ha ha im an idiot...

ojk basicaslly i still have boardset issues but:

removing and reseating the edge connectors fixed my staticky sound...

Back in the day the former owner and i put the monitor in. Had to wire in a standard rgb molex conenctor because it was missing. We matched the wire colors perfectly, but they were pinned out wrong in the connector!! LOL

so instead of

b
g
r

(from the back looking foward)

it was wired
r
g
b

hence why the trees were kind of trippy and why the exhaust of the plane was blue instead of red lol..

So its 98% working, i can live with the minor lines and a few missing voices for now.

Now to figure out why the shaker doesent work. anybody have a dip sheet for this? where the f are they?

thanks...

Another dumb question.. the lights on top(red ones) are they supposed to stay on solid? theyre supposed to be warning lamps and only light up as danger is near correct?

man, i hope i have some spare outrun pcbs(the little driver ones for this stuff)

we shall see..

edit ok theres two of the same little relay boards.. i swapped them now my lock on luight is solid, the warning lights work normally.. so i need one of those. anybody knwo if i can rob the "black blob" piece from the shaker board(ibecause i have a spare) and install that on the light board thats stuck on?

In my stash i did find a feedback motor relay board, swapped and ng shaker still inop. WHen im in selftest if i try to test the shaker it goes right back to the main test menu. That makes me wonder if theres a dip setting thats wrong or something.

edit after staring at this thing for awhile i see a big dent in the shaker motor casing. I will pull it tommorow and test. I have a spare, lets hope thats all that is..

Comeon now, i cant be the only guy with a sega game with the shaker motor not working.. outtun afterburner its all the same krap.

so far ive checked and i have 50vdc at the rectifier, shaker fuse is good, other fuses in cab good, ive got 50vdc to the shaker relay pcb. Ive plugged in a known good motor and same still dead.

What gets me is then i go into selftest and pick "motor test" it instantly boots me right back to the main menu. makes me thing theres either a dip setting issue or most likely a mainboard issue. Bummage. Lmk your opinion.

Well, its official. I need a boardset.

I took this one out to reseat chips, found lots of dus bunnies too, but underneath the corner where most of the roms are, theres a big crack, a piece of the pcb is missing, tons of jumper wires and epoxy. Even if i wanted to check it out and see what the repairer missed, i cant because sealed permanently... this sucks bad..

so if anybody has a working afterburner or ab2 boardset lmk.

Yes I have this but the sit down deluxe version. Might want to check out the switched to see if the rumble motor is turned on. Also I have a board set with some minor screen artifacts. Works. Thing that one of the memory(not Rom) chips is faulty. Fun game. The lock on light only functions when you have a lock-on!
