Any afterburner fans? Who has the game in their collection? I played one many many years ago in a Ben Franklin store.. I spent at least 5 dollars if not more of quarters on this game.

i loved afterburner as a kid. finding one is kind of what got me into buying arcade games

though i only remember playing and seeing the sit-in version finding a stand uup was better due to space and cost

I've got the deluxe version...after just about pulling my hair out...I realized I had removed one of the motor brushes for some odd reason and had forgotten to put it back in. Now its fully operational again, although its making an odd rubbing sound that needs investigating before putting it back together. Also am going to order some large 5 or 6 inch wheels, mount them onto some channel iron and have a friend weld them to the bottom of the cab. The original casters sega put on the machine were way too small and broke. The mounting brackets bent also, ugh.

Ain't that the truth! I had two wheels disintegrate on a Galaxy Force while hauling it through a mall -- had to bring it in the "promo" doors, damn thing doesn't even fit through double doors.

I have an After Burner upright and can score 7M on one credit!
but i also notice it sits and doesn't receive nearly as much play as other games.

Afterburner is one of those games I played EVERY time I saw it. I loved the "Top Gun" aspect of it, and really thought I was Pete fucking Mitchell when I put a quarter in. Loved the graphics, hectic game play, and the cabinet. I bet AB is a hit with kids. Maybe I'll pick one up someday.

Even the stand up weighs a ton. I got my buddy to help me bring it in the house and for the next 3 months he would call big girls "hey afterburner" every time we went drinking.

I have 2 uprights one of which is really nice and the other a project. I also have the Cockpit version which also needs a rebuild. Only problem is I cant get rid of the uprights yet since I need the one to figure out how to fix the other LOL.:D

You guys are moving them wrong :D

Really After Burner is so much more fun with the motorized sit down. You guys are men until you have dead lifted the bike base on a Propcycle. I have.

I really wanted it in my basement. I must have gotten that super human strength that people get when they lift a car off their child. :D

Back to After Burner, I would really rather have an R360, but I am sure that won't make it into my basement, nor could I afford it.

I had two at one time. Wish I still had one.

Great game, one of the Sega greats I grew up playing.

trying to restore my deluxe now...I had fixed the controller and added some nos grips + a nos monitor plexi and fixed a sound issue by replacing the sound board, the motion died...bummed and intimidated, It sat like that for several months. Stuffmonger took a look at it and figured out how to remove the motors. I took the motors into work and my electrician friends tested and found 1 motor was bad. I had 2 motors from Takeman and they serviced them and had our machinists take a fresh cut on the armature or whatever its called..added new brushes, 40 weight gear oil to the gear boxes and reinstalled. Motion works now :) but the pitch motor wheel slips so will order a new spring (we might have overcompressed the old spring when removing motor)...also the area where the roller rides has worn to slippery bare metal so will repaint. In process if repainting all the metal surfaces and brackets showing wear. Replaced one small green roller that was cracked to hell. Pulled all of the small wheels, cleaned and lubed and reinstalled (1 was a major pita). Cleaned and vacuumed everything (it was a filthy dusty mess underneath). plan on replacing the seat carpet and floor rubbers. recapping the monitor and having the heavy duty channel iron and wheels installed. Its been a chore, but once completed it should be really nice. Thankfully the cabs artwork is nearly perfect. I'll try to post pix when I finally get finished, I'm hoping in 2 weeks :)

i feel your birthing pains, brother.
just think, all that work and time, yet the machine will still
be worth very little due to its size. but, like a classic car,
the finished product is what it's all about. be sure to take pictures.

lol all too true...i've probably got at least $2300 into this and still have to buy the casters (prob $150-250 for a set of (4) 8" with wheel locks not too mention the time like ya said. Thankfully the troubkeshooting, motor servicing, and welding were and will be free since its being done by friends. If I ever sold it on ebay it might fetch $1k if I got lucky...probably 500 is more realistic, heh. Restorations truly are a labor of love and a
money pit!
