Hi, guys I picked up this afterburner deluxe and was wondering what you think it's worth. It works fine and I would say it's condition 8 on a scale of 1-10.

Its in Kaukauna, WI

Heres a youtube vid of it.

You will get different opinions on price. I paid $400 for mine, but others may tell you less. The price is dependent on what someone is willing to give for one. They are rare and fun to play, but the weight and size of these makes for a short list of interested buyers. I'm sure someone here will be interested in it though.

The switches and pots for the vertical movement is under the cover on the left(coin tower side) cradle pivot. The side to side ones are under a removable cover on the front of the cradle.

price... location.. both not posted.

neat game btw. I hope to snag one some day, dont know how the heck i would ever get it into my basement though :D

There Awesome machines, I looked at your vid and it looks like your home switch is off. The body should be level when its at home. If you get it adjusted right you will have a greater range of motion.

Yeah was the one in Fond Du Lac. Yeah I adjusted the pot and now it starts level. It worked great for several days but now I am having a problem. The seat (left-right) when I turn the machine on goes all the way right and the motor keeps running and squeals the tire on the motor it doesnt stop and go back the other way. NOW I know what your all thinking, limit switch, BUT I tested the limit switches and they are fine. It's not the limit switches. Would a bad pot do that? It is strange because I had been playing it for like 2 hours, shut it off, and when I turned it on a few hours later, when it does its little power up thing where the seat goes left right and the cabinet goes forward back, the seat goes all the way right and then the wheel on the seat motor starts slipping because it just keep going. So I immediatly shut if off, I dont want to burn up the wheel for wreck the motor.

Any ideas would be very helpfull.

Thanks,
Jim

I changed the seat pot today and it didnt make any difference. Seat still goes all the way right and keeps going squealing the tire on the motor. Im baffled.

Are you sure the wires aren't broken/shorted etc leading to the limit switch? It may be worth checking for electrolytic caps that may be in line with the limit switches on the (I assume it has a) motion control board. Are the PCBs clean? Any chance something is shorting to ground, etc? It may also be worth checking the power coming off the power supply. I know in a lot of cases bad power will make a game run but not quite right.

Anyone who has actually had one of these apart can jump in any time ;)

In test mode does it hit the limit switch? the switches in the front of the machine set the left\right limit. If the switch isn't contacting then the motor will continue to run until it does or times out.

I know it sounds screwy but I turned it on today and it powered up just fine and I played it for like an hour. So I don't know maybe just a fart in the system. But to answer earlier questions, yes it is hitting both limit switches and I did check for continuity on all the wires to the limit switches and pot all the way down to where it plugs into the board.

Yea it is somewhat dusty in there, so I will give a little cleaning, prolly canned air mostly. Took the light box out of the back today where the afterburner lights up(because it wasnt lighting up, just needed bulb) but anyway found a nice mouse nest in there. Hahah... old one not occupied thank god.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate the help.

Look for this machine up on ebay probably in the next while.

Try having some one sit in the machine when turning on. With weight it usually wont slip and will move past the motor test. Also when calibrating have someone sit in it. Otherwise it will be calibrated with not enough weight and the limit switches will be out of sync. Simple fix but most people dont think of it. Let me know. Thanks.

to remind me to read this again & again for clues.. had the same problem at start, was going right righttttt and nothing more... but now the machine is dead .. something did happen as a short-circuit in the lower psu..

If you can hang onto it until the middle of next year or so, I'll buy it. I'll even come pick it up myself. I just have no money and a lot of games needing TLC, not to mention a car problem. I really, really want some kind of motion machine, and this is all too convenient, but I just don't have the cash.

Guys,

That "seat going right/keeps going right" issue is probably the triac board going out. Mine has had that same symptom happen a few times - sometimes with the horizontal motion, sometimes with vertical.

The triac board is (when looking in from the front) a little left from center, far back of the board bay. Has two 3-pin molex connectors, one brown one white - and you'll see 4 3-pin triacs tied to heat sinks. Half of the board (2 triacs tied to one of the connectors) drives side/side, other half drives up/down motion.

Google "how to test a TRIAC" - it'll show you where to take resistance measurements across the pins; if they need to be replaced, last time I bought a bag of like 20 for a few bucks on eBay.

hope that helps you solve that warm up prob.
