Thanks - I'll hijack my own thread with some pics of the old whip - was one of the first with an APS single turbo - best number were 505 hp to the ground - sold it last year to a young 20-something kid after 5 years, 2 built motors, and thousands of dollars later - still see it being driven around on occasion:

I've had mine since Jan 2003. Dallas had a big modding scene, but as you get older and have kids, priorities change. Never did any meaningful engine mods because the engine always has to be rebuilt first...unless you want to blow it first. Just couldn't rationalize $10k for the HP boost. What did you end up selling yours for anyways? I've toted with the idea of selling it and putting the money towards a DeLorean...

Prepare to vomit: over $60k invested since 2005, sold it for $14.5k. It is what it is... market fell apart on these things. Plan was to buy a Syclone for a weekend ride - getting married instead - future toy plans on hold for the time being. I do miss the Z, however, I don't miss the maintenance headaches associated with boosted mods...

story of my life, I have a built 240sx, boosted life is great but upkeep is so annoying.. always something.

If by annoying you mean drive one to have homicidal tendancies, indeed! I'm still boosted nowadays, just in the form of a diesel with manufacturer's warranty. :)

That silver looks great. Kinda OT, reinforcing my Out Run panel with fiberglass and having it repainted like that is something I'd like to do. Shame someone doesn't reproduce the Out Run dash, as they're nearly all in fair shape.

Was able to 'work from home' this afternoon and knock out part of the bezel refinishing. I would have liked to just scrub this bezel and reapply decals, but the cigarette burns weren't coming out - so time to reshoot it with color.

Stripped the decals from the better of the two bezels I had, took it down with 600 grit wetsand, shot it with a automotive basecoat/clearcoat. Had some leftover paint from my former 350Z; the silver was a pretty darn close match for the AB bezel (paint code KY0, 2005 350Z), and luckily for me, had just enough slow reducer/hardener since temps were over 100º this afternoon. New color has metallic flake in it - makes it stand out just a bit - I think it looks sharp, myself.

Would have been nice to shoot this in a booth, but caught the weather at a nice point where crap wasn't flying around in the air to end up in my paint (no haboobs today!). Clear laid down very well, happy to say. I'll let that sit for a couple of days before applying the NOS decals and new monitor screen bezel.

Hope to at least finish the rubber flooring, kick panel, console install and corner metal this weekend. Almost done blasting the coin doors for new paint.

Stripped and sanded:

New color and clear:

Clear laid down nice with the slow reducer; high gloss and no orange peel:

That looks simply beautiful. What brand Basecoat/Clearcoat did you go with?

Thanks - I shoot Martin Senour and Ultra 7000, affordable stuff from Sherwin-Williams since things like this are hobby only and no way related to the day job.

Frustrating setback today - my NOS windscreen replacement doesn't fit my newly painted bezel. It fits my donor bezel just fine (and yes, I did flip it around just in case) - screw holes are distanced differently on the new bezel.. WTF?!

*sigh*

So, I just sat and looked at it for a few minutes, I'm pretty disappointed that there apparently are two different bezels out there. Came up with the option of shooting the inside of the new NOS plexi *gulp* to hide the screw holes. I tested it out on my donor plexi, and had some chrome hex screws that I think will work well for the project. Luckily I had some fine-line vinyl tape on hand to have a sharp, accurate bend... looking for thoughts on the matter:

Well - did it - looks like it turned out OK. Fine vinyl tape is great to create a sharp edge; the paper tape didn't cut it on the donor plexi. I used small strips of electrical tape to cover the holes before applying the plexi - spray pain doesn't stick well to this plexi, and you cannot sand it prior to spraying, so it was *very* prone to scratching which is markedly visible on the front. I believe the chrome buttonhead screws worked great with this color combination.

Wow, this is not your typical restoration. I would love to put this kind of time into my Space Harrier. Looks amazing so far.

Finding metric carriage bolts in a black color was a PITA, so I sanded down the ones I had and resprayed them along with the speaker covers.

NOS decals and warning lights installed, test fit is looking pretty good!

Hello, looks great so far!!! I also restored an Afterburner a while back, and discovered there is no side art. I am somewhat an artist, so I handpainted my own sideart...(im the Facial Composite Artist at my work)

Also, to polish the plexiglass, use a product called Plexus. Im a police officer and we use it to polish and de fog the blue lights on our cruisers, it is an amazing product, i use it on all my games i restore, works great to make pinball glass look super clear also. It fills and hides scratches.

Good luck with the project!!!!!!!

It's absolutely inspiring to see someone going to so much work to fix such an unusual cabinet design up... and doing such an amazing job at it! Keep up the good work, this is awesome! :D
