hello everyone,
I had two after burner pcbs that i acquired from a warehouse arcade operator and @KaBoom1701 was nice enough to offer his game as a test platform.
both boards were hooked up and both had a similar issue, while the games came up and were working, the video game play appeared inverted while the overlay / outside graphics displayed in the correct orientation. Self-Test checked out Okay, no errors reported.
Here are additional pictures you can peruse. has anyone else come across this game play weirdness??
We contacted Ken @ irepairsega and he said he had never experienced this issue let alone on two different boards. he felt confident the issue lied in the SEGA custom chip which of course is the most expensive chip and apparently there are no more *new* chips available, except for the last one he had and used to repair one of these boards. Thanks Ken!!
Used working chips can be used to repair defective boards but he said they are susceptible to bitrot so your mileage may vary. don't pay "new chip" prices to fix your boards
