Hey guys,

I need some advice please.

I have a chance to trade for a Nintendo Red Tent that is in really good condition (7.5 / 10) and comes loaded with games on the Playchoice side. The chap is selling it for $600 or would like to trade for a Neo Geo AES. I currently own an AES Gold System that has been in storage since 1993. It's essentially new and comes complete with the box, manuals, Baseball Stars, memory card, 2 arcade controllers etc. Everything is super mint. At first, I was thinking of trading but after much thought, I was having doubts. It took me forever to find this bundle and the price was unreal. I don't even want to disclose it or will make some of you ill. I also own an MVS 2 slot cab that I just restored. I really don't play the AES, but it's part of my collection. I also always a Nintendo cab to finish off my collection and this red tent is pretty cool.

What should I do? HELP!!!! LOL.

Thanks for the help and advice guys, really appreciate it :)

Cheers

Thats a tough one.The red tent in question has the pc10 conversion on one side? Do you know what games?

If you got a sweet deal on the AES I would say do the trade. I had a fully boxed AES system with several boxed games and sold it to purchase my very first arcade cab (a PC-10). Though I no longer own that particular cab, I have never regretted selling the AES. Now I have a 4-slot MVS and games for it are MUCH less expensive than the AES.

I appreciate the feedback. I do have an MVS so the purpose of the AES is only to fit within my boxed 90's boxed console collection. I will never collect games for it, just the system as a throw back to my high school years when nearly no one could afford the system. As I read about the Nintendo Red Tent, the more it catches my curiosity. Ill give it a serious think over tonight.

What do you guys think an AES gold system complete in box could sell for these days?

I think there is plenty of NeoGeo and Nintendo love. Personally I have both an MVS and a Red Tent. If the red tent is in good shape and has the PC-10 on one side I would go for the trade, but for me, the AES is just too expensive for the games, especially when you can buy a consolized MVS for about the same price as an AES and then have all of the games much cheaper.

Hmm... trade an AES system with one game, which you don't play, for a Nintendo red tent arcade cabinet with the PC10 kit and some games on one side and a Vs. game on the other side?

I think you should do the trade. You'll get more enjoyment with the red tent. And you can get the NES to PC10 adapter to play your NES carts in your red tent too. Put your AES to use and trade it! :)

There's an adapter to play my NES carts on th red tent??? Fuck, I'm in for the trade then :)

Thanks for all the advice guys. Appreciate it.

The adapter is made and sold by 2600 on here. It is not for the Red Tent, but rather for the PlayChoice 10. I have one in my RedTent with PC 10 on it. It is pretty awesome, but make sure your carts are clean and your voltage is at the right levels :D

What is an AES Gold system worth now days anyways? I was a hardcore console collector at one point, but always stayed away from the Neo Geo stuff. It is a pretty insane system to collect for and not very friendly on the wallet.

If you can get 3-500 for it I think you're in the ballpark for a straight trade. Depends on the condition of the red tent.

Also +1 MVS being the less expensive way to go Neo Geo. If you want AES features, investigate the Universe Bios for MVS (don't have first hand xp with it, just what I've read up on it). The flip side to this, however, is PC-10 is the more expensive way to play NES games...so...yeah... :p

BITD I sold my unboxed Neo Geo CD and AES systems for about $600 total. I went out and got my first big red for $225 and feel like I made out like a bandit. I recently sold that same machine for $500. I barely ever played the AES... My current MVS always gets play and my boys just recently have started getting interested in it. I still have a massive console collection but seriously.

Arcades > Consoles

and then again I'm just about to come to the next turning point... (after trading up a Neo 19 for a Black Knight Pin)
Pins > Arcades

Like me... after trading your AES, you'll never look back. The Red Tent may not stay foreve (another discussion) but it'll carry some high Vid value to turning into something else.

I see many more AES systems come up for sale then Red Tents, especially Red Tents that are in great shape. I would for sure trade. I love my red tent and so does everyone who sees and plays it.

Cool! Not to derail, but I got bit by the pin bug about 4 years ago. We have something else to bullshit about. :) Really crazy genre of game when you get over that initial learning hump of "just keep the ball alive and get lucky" to "shoot stuff on purpose/learn to control the ball". Too bad it is the more expensive side of the hobby.

For real though, everyone's gotta eventually weight what you have time to play and enjoy vs. what you enjoy just staring at collecting dust/wasting space.

just to continue the derail...

I got it cause my kids were glued to one of those toy pinball machines at the daycare and I realized that they were fighting over it cause they really liked the mechanical aspect of it. I talked to them about the Neo 19 and they said it was fine to give up for a real pinball machine so I did the sale for the trade up to our Black Knight. One of my boys is very impressive when he plays it. I just need to get the LCD fixed on it so that he can go for real HS runs...
