Hi! I made a deal for my first machine and I have a short bed pickup but would really appreciate any advice on how to transport machines. The game is Mortal Kombat II and if anyone can take a tape measure to give me dimensions it would help me a lot. I think weight is 300 pounds. If there is a site with all this kind of info please let me know. I'm hoping 1 other guy and me will be able to get it loaded up.
I was thinking cardboard for bottom of bed, maybe some old blankets and a tarp and some ratchet straps to secure it. Any advice? Thanks. This site has been so great so far!

If I have time I'll measure mine, but it should fit in any truck bed just fine.

Use some old moving blankets if you have some. Bring some extras to pad the sides when it is in the truck bed. Cardboard can also be used to pad sensitive areas.

Open the machine up and take anything that is not bolted down/secure out to ride in the cab. MK2 typically has their boards bolted/screwed to the side, but you never know how the previous owner has it set up. If you can't get inside...cross your fingers and hope anything loose is not major enough to do damage/get damaged.

Close everything up. Line the machine up against the truck bed (back first). Lay down a moving blanket or two if you wanna use them. Then tip and push so the machine is laying on its back. Sometimes I can do this in one motion, sometimes I gotta tip first, then push. You can also use the moving blankets to help scootch the machine back. I've moved machines as big as MK2 (and heavier) myself doing this, but I'm also a big guy. Having a second person DEFINITELY helps.

Once in the bed, throw some padding on the sides to prevent possible scratching and between the top of the machine and the truck cab window. Bungie/rope down the machine however you feel comfortable. You're not so much strapping it down so it won't fly out, but more to try and limit all the sliding around it will do. It will slide around to some degree no matter how well you hog tie it down, so don't discount the padding. Don't make sudden stops or the cab could wind up through the window and drop kicking you in the head (hence the padding).

Getting it off the bed is everything in reverse. Slide the machine out until you can tilt it, then tilt/lift to bring it upright. This is the scarier of the loading/unloading imo, because I've tilted too late and had the machine almost lay on its back. Tilting too soon can have the machine crash down. Not gonna kill it, but still... :p

Pro-tip: going in and out is way easier the closer the bed is to the ground.

Lay it on its back
Drive with tail gate open
Secure with some ratchet straps

Always pick up game on a Sunny day with 0 chance of rain. That way you wont need tarps or anything else.

Yeah the rain part is always a possibility this time of year around here... A tarp is a must but honest if I get into a soaker I think it's game over regardless of what I do. It's only a 45 minute drive back and I will keep my eyes on the weather but who knows.

Check the weather beforehand, and if it says there is a chance of rain, call the buyer and ask to pick it up the next day. Most of the time, people will understand and work with you. Rain + electronics = trouble.

you can lay it on it's back or side, remove the CP if you want (it'll help get it thru doors).

it's 26 3/4" wide, about 40" deep and 75" tall. (not including the control panel)

there's a post with the actual dimensions and weight around here somewhere, i can't remember tho lol

cardboard/blankets/foam will all help you from skuffing/chewing up the cab.

In any case, congrats on your first game. The Simpsons will show up one of these days. :) Post pics when you have it!

Congrats on your first game! Definitely want to see some pics! :)

This is also a great thread, as I have to figure out how to come up with moving my Tempest cabinet that I'm about to get as well, nice tips! Think I'm going to handtruck it two blocks down the street from where it's at to my house.

thanks you so much for the info.
I actually have a coin op slot machine from japan that has a monochrome orange video screoon over the reel called "Magic Pulsar" it is such a frigging fun game to play ! But this will be my first official cabinet!

THANKS AGAIN for posting that info and site for me!!!

Local guy getting it tomorrow... hit every possible source HArD for a few weeks...considering my budget and lack of skills I needed a game that worked for a good deal and something with multiplayer and lots of replay vlaue. I don't think I will ever be a collector, I am a gamer at heart and if it doesn't get played often it isn't for me.

One thing you can do to help protect the cab is to wrap it up with stretch wrap like stuff they'd sell at Home Depot or wherever. That stuff has saved me a few times from cabs getting a shower on the way home.

I saw that saran-wrap looking stuff... Home Depot Sells it? Does it come in rolls? How much would you say it costs to properly wrap up the average cabinet? I HATE to buy plastic like this for kind of wanton waste. It's such landfill junk, you can't really reuse it and between making, shipping, and throwing it "away" - as if there is really such a place as 'away' I really have a hard time justifying doing something like that, but I am curious nonetheless of what it costs.

it works a lot better than a tarp. If you wrap a game well and keep it from sitting in water you can transport it safely in the worst weather. Tarps blow around and just don't usually protect as well as you'd think they would. Another option is to get a game size plastic bag. They do exist and are reuseable.

I have measured a few MK/KI cabs in my time...off the top of my head I want to say 74" tall, 28 Inches wide, and 40 inches deep.

When I moved my MK IV it barely and I mean just barely fit in the back of my cousins truck, my KI fit into a large truck of his later, and when I had an MKII it didn't quite fit in my brothers F150 (maybe 2 Inches shy).

I am about positive on those measurements. As far as weight goes I would say in the neighborhood of 375lbs.

I know that my cousin and I carried Killer Instinct (same cab and monitor) without a dolly and we were able to lift it into a truck without fulcrum...it felt heavy as shit.

I would take the advice hear and stretch wrap it...before you do that go to office max/kinkos and by 50' of bubble wrap and wrap that. I have had stretch wrap damage side art. THe bubble wrap will help prevent that...alternately use close cell foam if there is a fabric store near by the sell it and if not they sell scrap fabric which will also help as a layer between stretch wrap.

MKII is a great game congrats.

One of these days I will learn to skim better...I see the dimensions and weight have been answered. I don't care what the flyer says I say it is 74" damnit :)

if anyone knows exact dimensions it would really help me in getting my sh*t together to move it.

i gave you pretty exact dimensions
