Hi!

Well, I need some advice on this. I have to be sure I get the
right thing.

I have a defective Yie-Ar Kung Fu board with 9 eproms. If I were to check
or make new ones, what product should I use?
I want to be able to test the eproms I have in the game against the game roms, and
make new ones if needed.

Would I be able to do this by having the Yie-ar Kung Fu rom file, unzip it, and
use it with something like this:?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SP8-Univers...629?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1f63ae25

I have no idea what are good brands, and bad brands or what it should cost etc.

Any advice would be awesome!!

Thanks!!:)

Well, the Yie-ar was more of an example, I'm going to use the
burner for other things in the future.

Thanks!

As said above, you get a burner based upon your burning needs.

mainman and Xian Xi both use TOP2049 USB burners.

As far as I know, it works great for "NEW" games--like CAPCOM and NEO stuff.

I've seen mainman check and make roms for my CPACOM boards.

This is the one that I'm planning on getting.

BUT, I'm not sure if it can handle work for the CLASSIC games--like PAC and KONG.

Hope this info helps,

tx

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an all around perfect burner with a decent price tag. If your going to burn older stuff, early 80's pacman type boards (2516 or 2532 chips), then your out of luck with these newer usb burners. I prefer a burner that needs it's own power supply. That way it can handle the different programming voltages. Unfortunatly, most usb burners just use the usb port for its supply and sometimes it takes a few tries, if ever, to program some of the older chips. The ones that have external supplies are usually parallel port burners and newer computers aren't coming with parallel ports anymore. I've tried the Top series burners and wasn't impressed with them at all. I programmed a newer 8meg chips with it and worked just fine. But, when I tried some of the older chips or even a PIC mpu, it had to do it a few times before the burn would take. Do your research and get one that will fulfill your needs. And like any tool, you get what you pay for.

Not true. The willem GQ-4X will do everything down to 2716 no problem including 2532 and 2532A. Mine came with an external power supply but you may need to buy it separate now. Its a great burner for right around 100 bucks. There are many people here including myself using this burner and I have yet to hear of any issues with them.

I stand corrected. Is that a newer burner? But it doesn't list the 2516 as a supported chip and the 2532A is read only. Is that wrong?

There are many threads on this topic which you can find with a simple search.

I use eeTools programmers: TopMax (2) and a ChipMax. Love 'em!

The TopMax will do some really odd chips such as fuse link PROMs/PALs, PLDs, and more.

Ok thanks:)

And it is cheaper than the GQ-4X....sooo...if it's OK, I think
I'll take the TOP853 then....

I have a older Needham Electronics PB-10 Programmer and I really like it. The Needham Electronics emp-20 is much better and handles more chips.

I like it very much as it is very simple and easy to use, if familiar with dos.

Instructions? What are those? :D

I probably did, but I don't know. I downloaded the software from their website, and a couple of other versions from the web. As always, Channelmanic was more helpful than any instruction manual.

ROFL!

That's because you're 15 min from my house. :)

Use 2716 setting for 2516. 2532A says read only simply because they dont guarantee it will work. I have burned hundreds of 2532A with mine and never had an issue. Yes its a fairly new programmer. I think its been out about a year.

Wow, that TOP853 from HongKong looks in my price range.

I'm looking for a chip reader/programmer for stuff like Galaga and Stargate. Will this do when I'm looking for? Will it work with Win7? I've never used one so I'm a n00b.
