G'day guys!
Long time lurker from Australia writing here...
Yesterday I introduced myself over in "Technical - Videogames - General Repair And Help" but I meant to introduce myself here... (oops!): http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=256614
Anyway, if you check out my starter thread you'll see where I'm at with CRTs...
Although I'm just getting started in the world of monitor care and repair, I'm really enjoying the experience and would like to buy myself some fancy tools. In particular, I'd like to buy a de-soldering station and ESR meter. I figure electronics will always be part of my life (I also tinker with and service my own computers and musical gear) and I'd like to get gear that I really enjoy using and that can produce professional quality results.
So, when it comes to monitor repair (replacing caps, flybacks and such) what would be people recommend in the way of a de-soldering station?
I've been looking at the Hakko 474: http://www.hakko.com/english/products/hakko_474.html
Also, what ESR meter do people recommend? I've Googled but I still have no idea what the best model is... figured I'd ask the gurus.
Anyway, I'm happy to spend the money but want to make sure I get the right unit for the job.
Any dvice would be most welcome!
