It you completely restored a Tapper (Full sideart and all) and had an original one as well, but the restored one looks better than the original. Which one would you keep? The Original thats in decent shape or the Restored one that looks great?

Me personally, assuming you were going to sell one, I'd sell the one I could get more money for... For me, it's about playing the games, and if the cabs aren't perfect I'm ok with that...

id sell the original, I see no point if you went through all that work to restore it to get rid of it. and personally, I would keep the one that looked better if its gonna stay in my collection.

According to Antiques Roadshow you'd want to keep the original because of the patina that the cab has received over the years.. If you cleaned the cab though then you are SOL.

Keep the original.

For instance - funny how people say a machine that Phet restored to look mint can command top dollar but yet people are saying because it's restored it's not worth as much as the some what tattered original???? It's like asking what's better oil or latex (it's personal choice/opinion I would think)

I guess I don't have a definitive answer - but I will say it only takes one person to sell an item. If you need money you sell the nicer one because most people look at the "curb appeal".

We got to that say keep the original and two that say keep the restored one. I had a feeling it was going to be like this. I'm not done with the restored one yet, but I have a feeling it going to come out very nice. I would hate to have to keep both since that isn't the smart thing to do and I dont have the space, but I might just hold on to both for awhile until I decide what to do. Thanks for all your input.

Origional - I like to keep my games as origional as possible as long as it isnt real bad. First I will keep it origional, if something needs to be replaced I will look for a origional replacement or nos, if I can not find it I will buy a reproduction part. sometime the price of nos can be way to high and then I will also do reproduction parts.

Wasnt the tapper repo side art ink jet?

WHAT?? Where does anywhere in his thread say anything is repro??? Second of all, I could replace all "original parts" with "original parts" that look nicer and your telling me thats not restoring a machine????? Your answer was not any help to this thread given the fact nothing was stated about what parts were used

He said one is orgional and one was restored? Why even ask the question if the restored one did not use reproduction parts or was repainted etc because then they would both be be origional in my opinion. So in away I think we are both making assumtions in which case your reply is even more worthless if he is saying the same thing as me and is just a flame post. He is not really clear in saying restored.. I think if he means what you are saying people would all say restored.

I don't mind if an original game has some nicks and scratches and imperfections but as long as the repro material is decent I'd personally value the restored one more if it were in minty condition.

I didnt mean my original post to come off offensive lol, but I mean restored doesnt "have" to mean repro does it?

Original -

I rather have an original game . My only requirements for one of my games is the monitor has to be nice , controls play perfect and the cab doesn't smell . If it is missing something I try to get a NOS part but if not , I'll get a repro . But thats only if its missing something , not if its just worn and looking kinda beat up .

Yes I'm putting on Repro side and front art. Sorry I didn't make that clear. Thats what I meant when I said restoring with full art and all. The artwork and cpo will be repro. I looking for an original marquee if I can find one. Everything else is original

Sell the original one with the shitty faded artwork and keep the pretty one for yourself. Originality means nothing to me when the art is faded and it looks/smells like it's been in a bar all its life.

Original= HUO, or barely played and worthy of going into my collection as it sits

Original= Been in a bar/arcade, artwork is there and good but not mint but i won't put it in my collection without doing something with it first. This version(to me) is just another game that needs restoration.
