Advice needed: Bought working board that diesn't work

I bought a couple boards off ebay in the past month, paid between $50 and $70 for each of them. One was advertised as working but sold as is. Board showed up barely working at all, nothing but garbage on the screen even after cleaning and re-seating chips.

The other was sold as working, games sounds seem to indicate it is playing, but graphics are messed up, with no sprites at all. Board also has some major corrosion on it that was barely visible in pictures.

Responses from sellers have been limited to an apology and assurances that boards were working when shipped. Both were packed fairly well.

So should I...

a) chalk it up to what happens when 30 year old boards get shipped
b) leave neutral or negative feedback
c) press for a refund from sellers
d) initiate a PayPal claim
e) all of the above
f) some of the above

Would just like to know how others have handled such situations.

well....

As for one advertising working but "as-is" Working is just that working..
Press that one for refund nicely, see if they will make right if its not "working" then they were not honest in listing. and considder bringing paypal into that oen..

Rest were boguht as what untested? or as is status unknown?

If your bid was in line with 'as-is' boards, then you got what you paid for. Any boards that work are just a bonus.

If you paid for 'working, but as-is' boards, then you overpaid. Feel free to ask the seller to offer you a refund, but I see no reason he is obligated. You should have asked for better pics if you were very interested and willing to pay top dollar. I always do. If I don't get the pics, I don't bid.

You give me the impression that you do not feel the seller was intentionally misleading you. I think in this case you should walk. I wouldn't blame you for leaving a neutral though.

The only board I could see you pressing is the acid damaged board. The seller should have disclosed that. IMO, that falls under 'item not as described' paypal rules.
