Advice - Best Dolly?

I have a few different ones. My favorite is the one with the big tires. I can go accross uneven terrain, Grass. Up steps with ease. The refrigerator dolly style one sucks IMO. It has a hard time rolling over a pebble with the small hard tires.

when you have 4 wheels a slight shift in the weight, or make the dolly buck a little, you will get over any bump/rock. If your going over the gravel driveway, come prepared. 2 pieces of plywood would get through it.

Balloon tires wobble when moving. You can easily lose control. Not worth the risk

Damnit, Tweeg and YODAinMN beat me to it!

I honestly had no idea that a super-fancy dolly was necessary. I've just been using a cheapo one forever... But it is a major pain tilting a haevy game backwards. hmmmmm...

That is a good point. The one I have with big tires has pretty stiff sidewalls. There is not much, if any deflection in them. I know what you mean by the flexible balloon tires. They pick up a wobble and will dump your game if you are not careful. Aaron

if you fold out the rear tires, you can throw your weight on the frame of the rear tires. the angle of it will help you tip the cabinet back. I think it a 150lb guy could tip a 500lb game no problem. Its a leverage thing..

Thats me! My problem is the dolly trys to roll when I do that. I would love to have one with a brake for the wheels.

I bought the one from Lowes that is used for appliances, has the small belts on the back for going down steps easily. It also has a strap for going around the game, has worked very well so far.

That's the same one I picked up, I've been pretty happy with it in the few months of owning it. The frame makes it nice and easy to get the games up on or off of the tailgates of a pick up.

My problem is going up stairs. Luckily the last couple of games that came out of basements, the seller was nice enough to help me move it. I'm considering getting an electric stair climbing dolly. No helpers needed. Anyone have one of these?

How could that be, I seem to recall that model had inflatable tires as well.

Best Dolly evar...

...does not compute.

And I want it to compute! :D

I would have to take a pic, but here is the idea:

you see how the guy has his raised foot.. Now step there with all your weight while pulling back at the same time.

here is a pic so you can see the back better:

you weight goes on the bar between the 2 smaller rear wheels

OooooooooooOOOooooooh. Gotcha. Thanks for the pics. I was thinking "Fold out the rear tires...? Huh?" :D

Yea the stairs get me as well. I always have to call a friend or wait till they show up and surprise them with a Centipede move. I think my Brother in Law hates me after the Zaxxon move. And he is a BIG fellah! I couldn't help but conceal a giggle as he grunted and groaned as I lifted from the bottom on each of the 3 steps - "JESUS H C%**#! That's a heavy Son of a B#$*(!" Hell I"m laughing about it right now. :D
My home sits up about a good 2 feet on foundation. Good for floods if we ever had them, however moving things in or out, even 2 or 3 steps can be a pain. Literally. So just from the garage to the house can be a chore.
I just can't get over the prices of a stair climbing hand truck. However, failure would never be an option. :) Like how'd you like to be on step 7 if it failed...hope for a cell phone in pocket?

Centipede is light, dude. And, the easiest way to get up stairs, is to lay a blanket over the stairs, lay the game on it's back angled up the stairs, and push from the bottom. Once you're at the top of the stairs, push the game far enough so that you can tilt it back up, and you're set. Just make sure you don't step on the blanket while shoving, or else you could slip. I've done a few games like that.

BTW, I think I have this hand truck. have had it for about 5 years now, and have moved tons of games, etc with it. Great design, and made of steel, so it won't just break like aluminum.

Well these stairs, there's only 3 of them, but there's just no way one guy can do it. They are tall stairs with an outward lip to them, so your wheels go under the lip. I'm wondering how well those applicance stair belts work.
I should be getting help anyways and shouldn't really be lifting these myself.

I'm telling you... blanket with the cab on it's back. When I first got into this hobby, I was at my mom's house, and the games stayed in the "play room" for awhile. It was 2 stairs lower than the rest of the house. That was before I even had a dolly.

I'd be interested to try an appliance hand truck with 3 steps just to see how the rear belt wheels do. But I still don't think I could do even a centipede by myself.
