I have read lots of threads about monitor yoke adjusting but I have never been clear as to if you have to power the game off before touching the yoke or if you can safely move it with the power on? Those copper windings dont look inviting, but it would be much more convenient to adjust the yoke while the game is on. So is it safe to touch it?

doing it wile it's on is, in my opinion the best and easiest way to do it.

remember those copper wires are coated, if they were not then they would short to themselves.

just dont touch the bare connectors that the yoke wires solder/attach to

if it still bothers you put on some work gloves.

i have demonstrated it at repair party's and have grabbed the copper wires every time.
it's funny to watch people flinch the first time they see me do it.

and yes i always adjust them with it running.
setting purity and convergence is a breeze once you see how easy it is.

I agree, it's not really that bad, but be careful of touching anything besides the yoke. It's really easy to have your wrist or your arm rub up against something that will shock the FUCK out of you.

YUP!!! been there done that to.
did it at an arcade party during a demonstration.

wear long sleeves it will lessen the blow a little if you get hit.
not having full on contact with it helps. and don't do wile you are sweating either.

I did a yoke swap once, I was terrified of getting zapped the whole time, but luckily did not.

It was worth it though. The monitor looked awesome with the new tube.

I just did my first yoke swap a few days ago on a K7500. After I did, the colors were off quite a bit and I read this could happen from the yoke not being pushed up onto the tube enough. Well, I decided to do this adjustment with the monitor powered on. I used two non-conductive tools to push and turn the yoke into place while looking at a mirror and sure enough, that was the problem. I was afraid to touch it with my hands. Glad to know I can but it still looks intimidating as hell with the copper wires.
