i am atempting to make the horizontal size smaller so that i can fit the whole game on the screen.. it hangs off the side a bit... i have my hex allen wrench in there but it doesn't seem like it wants to turn... im not turning to tough as i don't wanna break the thing off...

but when i do think i turn it, nothing appears to happen to the screen..

any suggestions?

If you're sticking a metal hex wrench inside a horizontal width coil, DON'T. You're likely to break the ferrite slug inside, rendering your width coil useless. Not to mention if you're digging around in there with the monitor on you're likely to shock yourself or at the very least burn yourself when the metal hex wrench grounds out.

You should reallly be using a plastic CRT alignment tool to turn that width coil slug. If it's stuck, warm up the monitor, then turn it off and gently try working it clockwise and counterclockwise until it breaks free and begins turning. Don't torque too hard with the plastic tool either; you can still break the slug with that too.

If you're not planning on moving the monitor to any other game in its lifetime, I'd suggest taking a more 'permanent' approach to modifying your width, using a width cap kit from Bob Roberts:

Also, read this page on adjusting horizontal width:

you *could* use a metal alen wrench, but only when POWERED OFF, and 1/2 turns at a time, remove the wrench, powerup and test, etc.. repeat as necessary.
If you forget the wrench in there thoguh, it has the potential to get red hot and i mean RED HOT very very quickly.

However as stated it is super easy to break those ferrite adjusting slugs if theyre stuck.

Im pretty sure the k7000 width coil is still readily available, so if you break it, its not that big of a deal to replace the width coil.

If you plan on owing more then one arcade machine, i would also strongly reccomend forgoing the metal allen adjustment of death and invest in a set of those plastic width coil tools.

They're cheap from bob...

Also... consider using the right forum and just spending lots of time searching and perusing the forums before asking questions.

Read the K7000 thread many times also... you'll get smarter each time you read it.
