Adding Wifi to 80s classics...remote coin op, high scores, ect

I am in embedded systems designer who is getting back into Arcades as a hobby.

I develop low power embeded systems that connect to wifi to datalog and control various systems.

Seeing all the cool highscore and free play kits gave an idea.

Is there any interest in kits that will post your high scores to a central database to compare against other players across the world? The device would transmit the data using your homes wifi.

I could put together a phone app that can be used to connect to the webserver running on your machine, view the high score list, number of plays, and could even include a button to add credits to the machine, more lives, ect from your phone.

This would be cool, but would need to be seriously cost effective. For example, a $30 device for each of my 40 machines is a pretty sizable chunk of change. I have a hard time with the idea of buying 20-$10 ez coin ups for the machines I have that do not support Free Play. That dips into my new machine funds... ;)

If you built your high score pcb using the 9 dollar chip computer.. this will bring Down your costs. It has built in wifi and Bluetooth..

I have looked into making something like this before using the aurduino and the raspberry pi but after adding Bluetooth or wifi.. it gets to be too expensive.

Uploading scores is cool and all, but what about if you want to turn on your machine and see the high score table updated with the best scores downloaded from the net? That i havent seen yet
