my Atari showcase has holes cut in the bottom for what appears to be a subwoofer you can add in.

what's entailed in wiring something like this up, do you run like a triple mono signal (2 to the speakers, 1 to the sub) ... I observed that these cabs come with a volume pot, would I need to add a separate one for the sub?

there's a jungle of wires inside this thing for various games, I found extra wiring in the base part where the sub would mount, is this extra speaker wiring already in there?

thanks

I have an Atari Showcase that has the Subwoofer mounted underneath where the boards sit. Mine has been converted a few times and the sub is just wired in Parallel with one of the other speakers. I know that setup probably isn't the ideal wiring job but it works and I haven't blown any output amps on any boards so far.

yeah, that's why I asked if you should add a pot to the sub too.

I predominantly expect to run my MK's and NBA Jam TE in it. hope I don't nuke any of the on-board amps. I was ACTUALLY wondering if the Aux Out pins on those boards were unamplified, as in I could solder an RCA jack to them and run out to an external amp.

any ideas on this one, or should I go and make another thread that probably nobody will reply to? :D

I tried connecting the sub a couple of different ways. I tried using a small car amp (it was already in the cab) and it was too much power for the sub, it just sounded like sub was over driven. The stock speaker that is in there isn't a huge speaker. I think it may be a 6 inch. I tried running one channel for the right and left speakers and other to the sub and that didn't sound right either. So, I went with the parrallel with one channel. My logic on it is that being a sub, it should have at least a cap on it to filter out the higher frequencies. So it probably isn't hurting the amp on the board. But I didn't bother to pull it out and check for a cap or filter network. There didn't seem to be a way to get it out without drilling or cutting the mesh cover.

The wires to it were both same color black with a yellow trace (I think) and weren't part of any of the other wiring bundles.
