Adding Console Games to KLOV Database?

my vote it, no consoles. As much as I play consoles more than arcade games, and being born in 87 so I also never had the chance to go to a classic arcade back in the day, I grew up on consoles. I feel like it would take away from this site. Like someone said the console thread on here is already enough, its not like there even 20 new posts in there a day.

But I agree, anything coin op should be on here.

There's already a billion sources for home console information, and they're probably more complete than what could be provided here.

Personally, I say instead of adding more scattered data the entries that are already here could be improved. There are some entries where the pictures for the machines are converted cabinets, and not originals. Create a way for trusted members to adjust the database. Get their restored machines uploaded as real examples of the machines. Get the side art. Get those 3D sketchup model people are making here. Get images of the boards and control panels. All this data exists, but it's just not in the entries.

The integration with VAPS is a good start, but I think it needs to be cleaned up a bit. You want KLOV to be the best site for all things coin-op amusement. Through this, hopefully you can make it easier for anyone out there who wants to own an arcade or pinball machine to get help and information to make that possible.

I feel KLOV should get cleaned up and up to date before even thinking about adding anything new to the site.

Basically, this. Get the current sites in order / integrated better / more fully featured (why can't people in VAPS boards for sale click on a link to see all the users who want to buy that board?) / cleaned up and then consder building upon it. Make changes with an eye towards future additions.

I'd include consoles and games, but have a better search function with check boxes to filter your results. It would be good exposure and I'm sure there are plenty of people on this site that would use a console section it would as well bring in younger people to the hobby.

Though I've heard from people with a variety of perspectives, there seems to be enough concern about letting consoles in the database that if they were let in I'd have to try and keep them segregated.

I'm going to put this off for a while (weeks, not days) to let it brew a little more, and then maybe I'll either drop it or come back with a more succinct proposal and pitch.

Our museum/exhibits definitely covers console ( http://www.arcade-museum.com/penny-arcadia/ ) but that's sort of separate from the encyclopedia and VAPS.

For me, I'm kind of confused about what each "branch" of the whole shebang represents. How is IAM different from KLOV and how is that different from VAPS? I've always called this the VAPS forums but most people I've heard call it the KLOV forums. I've never heard anyone call it the IAM forums. Which is the head, which is the subsidiary? Now there's Penny Arcadia in the mix which I didn't even know existed until I just read it above. There's a link saying "Arcadia" on arcade-museum.com, but it was never clear what that was. An event? A society?

Truthfully, other than a VAPS member, I don't really know how to represent myself as an arcade/video/pinball game collector. When I try to explain to people what this whole "society" even is, I can't form a proper description as there are so many aspects to it.

Please help clarify if you can. Thanks!

I'd say drop the idea of adding consoles and do what many previous posters have suggested.......improve what's on the site currently. I can't think of how many times I've gone to look up info on a game and also see some pics of the cabinet only to see a couple of screen shots instead. And for truly dedicated games there should never be a pic of said games in a conversion cab....ever.

+1 FOR COIN OP ONLY. And Jukes.

Keep it coin op only! That said, I'd like to see coin op expand to include stuff like coin op air hockey, billiards, foosball, change machines, etc. I think all that stuff has a place here and in VAPS before console and hand held stuff does.

I'm thinking of adding better console coverage here, in particular adding system coverage to the main's site encyclopedia. It would have its own category to keep things separate from the coin-op machines.Comments?

Gee, can we have a category for board games too? I'd love to register my Monopoly and Strageto games. And how about sports games too, where we can register our bats, balls, gloves, hockey sticks, etc?

I am totally against this idea. I really don't think we should have pinball games on here. The pinball database has an excellent system of their own already. Why do we keep trying to move towards an all encompassing registration? Why can't we keep it to simple coin operated video arcade games?

Wall games (Trapshoot, etc.) should be on KLOV before console games.
