Even though I found a bad bridge rectifier on my Monte Carlo's power transformer, I have my doubts as to whether or not replacing the bad BR will yield any results. If thats the case, can I just plop a switching power supply in place of the power transformer assembly in the base of the cabinet? If I can, do I need to do anything to the power supply board in the backbox?

A switching power supply will NOT work in most pins. They do not have a high enough amperage rating for what is required by a pin. You also can't get solenoid voltage out of them either.

Burt is correct in saying that replacing the bridge is the way to go.
