Adding a credit button

Take out the coin mech, and hot glue a micro switch or leaf switch behind the coin reject lever. Wire the switch parallel to the coin door switch per Bob's diagram.

Totally removable, no damage to the cabinet or door or control panel by drilling holes.

Just push the coin reject button to 'insert coin'.

on my games I add a button where the lock would go on the coin door, just a leaf switch button with the wires from the coin switch, simply to switch back!

I was wondering - how does everyone go about adding a credit button to a game that doesn't support free play? I noticed a lot of cabs at California Extreme this weekend set up that way and wondered whats the usual way to do this?

I saw 4 ways at CAX:
1) Drill a hole somewhere, put a button
2) Snake wires out the coin drop, attach button
3) Coin reject adds credit
4) Hack the software

After seeing the possibilities, I vote for #4 but it certainly is not possible by everyone. And then you probably can not use that board set to set "official" high scores.

I did the button out the coin rejector on my Bloodstorm. I don't have the wires snaking out of the reject and a dangling button though, the button is in the coin reject slot (guess this would be impossible with a coin door with little doors on it) flush. I just took a couple short lengths of wire, enough to reach the button (horizontal microswitch) in the coin reject hole, put .25 female qd's on one end (the spade connector into the coin swiches on mine are .25), .187 males on the other end (for the button microswitch) and ran them from the wires going to the coin door and the button. That way it's really easy to undo if I want to not have the button sticking out of the coin reject anymore, and I didn't have to drill holes into anything to get it working.

We did a lot of games at a church like that. All we did was drill a hole and put a pushbutton in there and wire the coin wires to it. hmmmm guess that would be a quick video for us to shoot Jonathan..

Another good way is to wire the coin switch to P2 Start, then hit P2/P1 for a 1 player game, and P2/P2 for a 2 player game. Also I use a quick disconnect so I can disable the modification from the coin door.

thoes old tilt switches inside the coind door are great for a secret switch
i have done 2 or 3 machines that way
just bend the contacts close to eacch other and then tap the coin door to add credits

I've seen credit buttons all over machines throughout the last 20 years. On coin doors, control panels, under the control panels, in the monitor bezel....but my favorite has always been on TOP of the machine. It's hidden out of sight and difficult to get to. Interestingly enough, the two times I saw this was at a local laundromat. They had a Ms. Pac and Galaga sitting right next to each other.

This was in 1983-ish....One day while going out of my mind while my mom washed clothes, I saw a kid drop a quarter into the Galaga, fiddle with the machine, pause for a few moments, proceed to hit and kick the machine. Eventually, the attendant came out and grabbed the kid by the arm and demanded that he stop. To make a long story short, the kid explained, the attendant reached on top of the machine, coined it up and the kid began to play.

Uh, yeah, I definitely noticed the coining up from up-top. From that day forward, I never paid for a gameplay while I was stuck there. LOL

I own a nice Assault in excellent condition, the only drawback being that the control panel was punctured to: 1. place a power switch on the right right. 2. place a credit button on the left side. Argh!!!! Yeah, so the panel is ruined. I need a new CPO....I'll be making the repro panels myself. So, who sells Assault CPO's?

Then again, I have to admit....I like this even better!! Had totally forgotten that you were making these. VERY COOL.

The PCB's are layed out and will be sent out to the fab this week. I already purchased enough parts to build 10 or so. I'll prob start a new post when they are ready to go.

Well I realize last night I in fact have TWO holes in the coin door already so I think I can utilize one of them for a button. They are small, so I hope I can find a button small enough!

OT but does anyone have recommendations how to fill those security bolt holes in a coin door?

I did this for my Playchoice and VS Dualsystem cabs and it works great. I need to do the same thing for two more of my cabs and I'll be set.
