I installed a new switching supply in my defender cab. I bought the williams conversion dongle from Bob Roberts. The unit powers on, cycles through it's self check and passes. The final screen states press advance to cycle through the self tests or one of the other coin door buttons to save. however, not of the coin door buttons work. I traced the wires and some of them are plugged into the linear power supply board. Since I am bypassing that board all together, I am assuming I need to connect them to the power supply. When I looked up the schematic in the defender manual, the voltages do not match up to those displayed on the back of my happs switching power supply. Any direction to get past this screen would be appreciated.

Did you buy the test adaptor? http://www.therealbobroberts.net/pstest5.jpg

You only need to hook up the black wire with orange stripe to ground. Your coin door is not working because you do NOT have the ground connected.

So I need to connect the black ground from the coin door to the new PS, right? That is what bob said. I am about to try that.

You need to connect the ground from the PS to the ground on the switcher.

That was it! Done deal. I just saved this $50 Defender. I put about $100 into it but the screen is gorgeous. I am debating on selling it or keeping it. If I keep it, I will fully restore it. Should I keep it?

This will NOT fix the problem, considering that there is no ground at the coin door. Doesn't really matter at this point, because the correct answer has already been given and the problem has been solved.

Yeah Dokert,

We have been tossing around black ground. I actually connected the Black wire (with orange stripe) originating from the coin door to the ground on the switching power supply.

I decided to keep it! I wanted a Defender anyway!

Since you're not bright enough to figure it out... 4J3 pin 6 is the coin door ground. Since he's still got 4J3 plugged into the power board, connecting the switcher and power supply grounds grounds the coin door.

And you make harnesses? Sad.

Since you can't read what the op had said, I have highlighted it in red for you. 4J3 pin 6 is the black wire with orange stripe that needed to be connected to ground. It was good of you to note that, after the problem had already been fixed.
