I own a JP, and have played Addams Family a few times locally. I have read that the games essentially play the same, and even where JP has been called a poor man's Addam's Family. Below is a side by side of the playfields (similar, yet different).

After playing both, I really dislike the Addams though. Am I crazy?

Big fan of the JP theme, and not so much of the AF, but even with that, I didn't much care for the Addam's play.

For those that have played both, is there that big of a difference in play or is it the theme that's the biggest separation between the two? I just find it kind of odd to love one so much and dislike the other when they are seemingly compared to each other so closely.

Your not alone, JP also has the same if not very similar shots as Whirlwind which just like addam's family is a pat Lawlor game. I'm not going to say I dislike Addam's family by any means but me personally In terms of themes I like JP better.

I'm a huge fan of the movie even have the 1:1 sign that nerdy ran over in his jeep on the way to the boat dock. I was close to buying a JP over the weekend at Allentown Pinfest show but we were slightly too far apart on price I offered him 1600.00 which I thought was fair considering the condition it was in. It was not minty and the t-rex even had issues at the show (But I know Jeff the seller and he is local to me and assured he would get the game 100% and fix any future issues... he ended up selling it next day for the price he wanted).

I'll take a munching T-Rex eating the ball on the playfield over the thing grabbing it any day of the week. I saw one in MA for 1400 on craigslist posted a few days ago but it was a beater judging from the pics (It's now I think gone). Another locally for an astronomically high tag of 2200 (came down from 2500). At that price I would rather a diamond plated whirlwind in minty condition or other titles. According to boston pinball ebay average selling prices Jurassic Parks yield around 1539.00. It's just tough finding one in my area for that price. My search continues for one in the NY PA NJ CT MA area. So if any one has one for sale local to me please let me know and PM me but I'm not spending 2k on this game unless it's HUO Minty !

Just in the playfield side-by-side, there are some differences in the layouts (but not much). I've only played JP about a dozen times, and Addams thousands, but I don't remember the rules being the same (have to go look it up now). Both themes are great IMO. I'd only lean towards JP over an AF because of price and wanting to replay the thing.

I'd take the TAF over JP anyday. I'll admit, the T-rex is cooler than Things hand, but other than that, Addams is better in all other aspects. (Artwork, sound, build quality)

Addams for the win. And no, your not crazy. The great thing about pins is that your free to like whatever pin/theme/game play style you want. And they are all fairly distinct. But by your own admission, you haven't played Addams that much. And while I haven't played JP but a couple times, I would say they are both great pins. But if you don't like it, you don't like it. And that should be enough reason to stick with your JP. I've played TAF a few times myself. When you have a good game, its awesome. When you have a bad game...its still pretty good. But I could see where someone would dislike it if they had a bad game(or 5) on it. And its also important to note that a game that is in disrepair or even poorly set up, can taint your opinion of a game. Some pins have to have the right tilt, and if one thing is malfunctioning on the play field, the game play can be abysmal. Just throwing it out there.

I think JP is arguably without a doubt one of the "best bang for the buck" pinball tables. Think about the value you are getting for around the 1500 range (All depending on condition obviously) I think in the years to come JP's value will start to go up IMO. To start it's got a great theme from a great movie and should hold up with time appealing to future pin heads. The T-Rex one of the coolest toys. The shaker motor really interacts with you well. The animations on the DMD are great. The frequent multiballs are fun especially when you get 6. The artwork on the cabinet is simple but perfectly captures the movie. I like the map as the playfield artwork gives you that feel you are on Isla Nublar. The translite with the topper really gives you that feeling all over again when you first saw that T-Rex roaring from the movie. I don't know I suppose I'm such a huge fan of the movie which makes me bias.

It gets a #21 out of 300 rating on http://www.ipdb.org/lists.cgi?anonymously=true&list=top300 But to me I'm also a huge Indiana Jones fan and I think IJ should be above Addam's on that list, it's really all personal preference.

Hopefully I'll own one soon. To me Jurassic Park is similar to a Corvette in the car world sure it's not a Ferrari but you get a really incredible value.

I own both. Got the JP for my son. Got the TAF for daughter. Cant really say what is so cool about JP. Sons loves it though.

I like the taf better. but you sure can find the JP for about 1/3 of the cost of a taf
