Well, finally broke down and sold my Addams Family. Got it in 1998 and had nearly 11 years of enjoyment out of it, but recently, it never gets played or even turned on, so I thought I'd sell it and share the experience of playing this great game with someone else. The shippers came and picked it up yesterday...

Did you sell that on ebay? There was a thread not too long ago about the value of TAF, so I was just wondering if you would share what you got for it?

Hope it arrived safely, that pallet doesn't look too whippy, I would never wrap and tie down the straps like that, pulls the boards right off the stringers, either that or it will split the boards in half, causing the straps to loosen up and the game to possibly fall over.

Right there, that's how 90% of games are shipped. I don't see anything wrong with the way that they put it on the pallet.

Guess I'm one of the 10% then, I know I wouldn't ship it like that, especially
on a game worth 3K+. Ratchet Straps would go the other direction underneath the stringers for additional strength / support, if this was not
possible I would have taken a 2x6 or 2x8 and lag screwed it into the stringers from the top and then run my straps underneath that. Those boards are only held down to the stringers with nails, depending on how much tension you put on those straps with the edge of the wood sticking past the edge of the machine like that its going to want to pull up the boards or put enough stress on them to crack/split them in half. An all hardwood Oak pallet might be OK but the softwood pallets probably not.
I used to work in a Pallet manufacturing plant for 5 years, also have probably shipped 20+ games myself so not speaking out my ass here.

Going the other direction with the straps would have been preferable, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Your probably right, if I was shipping a 100.00 to 200.00 machine I wouldn't have any issues with the above method, but when you start shipping a high
dollar pin it would make me a little nervous.

+1! This will be my first pinball machine eventually and it would be nice to know if the prices of the most produced pinball machine ever are coming back down to earth... ;)

I palleted it and wrapped it and everything. The shipper didn't do anything except load it on the truck. This was the first pin I ever tried to ship and I thought it was pretty safely packaged, but now that I think about it, the point of the board coming loose on the pallet because of the tension from the straps is valid, but I think it is good for my first attempt. Anyway, to answer some questions, I sold it for $3300. I possibly could have got more out of it, but I wanted to sell it quickly. I only had it listed for a day and a nice guy in CA snagged it up. Here was the auction if you are intersted...

It looks to me like you put some thought and effort into your palleting job. There's always some things that can be done better, but unless it is really abused in transit, I think it will be fine.

I think for a first timer I think you did a very good job getting it ready for shipment, I like how you used the legs to help protect the corners of the cabinet., did a good job cardboarding and shrink wrapping also.

Thanks. I have shipped about 6 machines or so in the past, so I am not a TOTAL newbie, but this was my first pin.

Man, I bet it'd be hard to let a pin go that you've had for 11 years. By that age I think it'd be a keeper.

Agreed, but I live alone with no prospects in sight, and I have literally played it out. For my amusement, that is. I don't really enjoy playing it anymore to be quite honest. It's like when I finally got all the Mortal Kombat cabs. All I ever wanted from the time I was around 12, was EVERY MK cab. All five. (MK1, MK2, MK3 UMK3, and MK4). I finally achieved that dream a little more than a year ago, now I only have MK1 and MK2 left. I sold the other cabs because the thrill wore off and I realized it was dumb to have all those cabs when I could just put all the games in 1 cab via a switcher. I am sure you can understand.
