Hello everyone

I'm doing a SI restoration and need to redo the kick panels. I have read that people use acetate to make their own stencils by tracing the art on the acetate and cutting it out. I have a general understanding but I was wondering if there was a good detailed guide as to how to make your own stencil, I just can't seem to find one.

Thanks!

I think that I'll just do it up right and buy the complete set from you. Saving all that time will be well worth it.

Thanks!

Darn. No disrespect (I love Rich's stuff) but I was hoping to see how this turned out from a do-it-yourself point of view. I've often thought some games could use a simple touch up by masking and re painting just one color or area.

I find process interesting. :)

If you wanted to do a full repaint with stencils, I would buy them in a heartbeat compared to the time and frustration in tracing and making accurate stencils. Been there, done that, PITA.

If you really want to mask certain shapes/colors and respray them in a touch up type effort, you probably want to use this:

Think of like a clear contact paper, a vinyl, that is sticky enough that you can firmly stick it down to mask for spraying, but it comes up easily enough. You can put this on top of the area you want to respray. Since you can see through it, you take a razor and lightly cut the outline of the shape out and peel that area up, leaving the area you want to redo masked off, if that makes sense. I've used this method in respraying solid areas/shapes/colors in playfield touch up.

I have used some large manilla tag sheets and sprayed the back with some spray on glue. Applied once the glue had dried and sprayed - worked well.

Would have bought stencils had they existed for the cabinet I was doing (old pinball)
