AC Wiring Help

Kind of new to wiring, but I've been following the Bob Roberts guide - http://therealbobroberts.net/acwiring.html

I'm looking for an alternative to the AC Distribution Block that he has in his guide and I was going to grab the one from home depot.

I have a question about wiring if anybody has used this piece from Home Depot. Does it work the same way?. Does everything still go in the same spot from Bob's guide. If I connected all the wires as such (see attached picture) - Does this look right?

Any help is appreciated.

look at bob's guide very carefully but minus off two of the tabs from the home depot part, see picture

Thanks - looks like I'm visualizing this incorrectly.

So I would only use the two middle rows - with power from AC Line on one side, and then have three wires on each slot on the other side - (Marquee, Power Supply, and Transformer)

Like it is pictured?

Yes, that's correct. So both wires come in the cabinet. The black wire goes through a fuse, and then into the line filter. The white wire just goes to the line filter.

When they come out of the line filter, the black wire goes through a switch. When it comes out of the switch, it goes to one of the metal lugs on the strip. The white wire comes out of the line filter and goes straight another metal lug on the strip.

So now you have your white and black wire connected to seperate lugs on the strip, to make it easy to attach to both wires.

So you connect a wire to the other end of the black metal lug, and run it to everything that needs power. Then you connect a wire to the other end of the white metal lug, and run it to everything that needs power. You're just using the strip as a way to connect wires with spade connectors on them together with screws.

Once you split it at that connector, you will have a black wire and a white wire running to your light, running to your power supply, and running to your Isolation Transformer.


You then run two wires out of the other side of your isolation transformer, into your monitor.

It seems really complicated but just follow the wires like a river, you want to run through the cabinet and have both wires everywhere you need power, the only exception is the black wire needs to be able to be turned off with a switch, and also needs to have a fuse that will blow if something gets shorted together.

I like to use a single throw, double pole switch to shut off and turn on my games

a single throw, single pole switch leaves one side "energized" all the time. if you "forget" and you're in there messing about with the cabinet plugged in, you can feel funny if you ground the electrical through yourself somehow !

I just like to have "everything" "off" with the double pole switch even if it uses more wire to wire the cabinet up

earth ground all the metal parts don't forget

generally isolation transformers have the 120 volts going in the bottom and out the "top" of the transformer to the monitor for wiring purposes

I guess you could cut the home depot part in half and use it in two cabinets for money savings !
