Hey everyone. Happy 4th of July!!! So I'm trying to put a small amp inside of one of my cabs because it needs one to push the audio, and after I got it, I noticed that it requires DC to power it. I have a Switching PSU for a Power Supply that only runs AC power. So, I need something that will convert the AC so I can use the amp. It requires 12V DC, Minimum of 9V.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? I found this converter on eBay, I think that it would do the trick, but wanted some opinions from you guys:

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your switcher does exactly that - converts the AC from the wall to DC. Most switchers convert to 5VDC, -5VDC, and 12VDC, although some omit the -5. Hook it right up to the 12VDC output and you're good to go.

That would be a 1.5 amp linear supply based on the LM317 adjustable linear voltage regulator.
The only way you will get that 1.5A output current rating is to cool the heat sink with liquid nitrogen.

Have you determined what your required current load is?
I wouldn't go beyond 25% rated load on this one.

Nice thing about linears as they are a much quieter power supply. Hot but quiet.

Either use your switcher power supply (check it has enough amps for your needs of the game + amp) or get a 12v transformer and a diode rectifier.

You are absolutely right. I have no clue what I was thinking, other than I got too many projects going on right now and it's all been a jumbled mess in my head. Sorry for the dumb question. Thank goodness I get some time next week to get some stuff finished up!

No need to apologize, we've all been there. I'm glad you didn't buy anything.
