I just picked up a ac adapter off ebay, but the plug is the wrong size for my device (too small). Given I match up polarity and the adapter is rated for the device, I should be okay if I take off the old connector and splice in a larger one?

Just thought I should check before I hack this nice adapter

thanks,

Yeah, that'll work just fine. I do stuff like that all the time. You just have to be sure that:

-The adapter puts out the proper voltage for the device
-The adapter can put out enough current to power the device
-The adapter puts out the proper TYPE of voltage (AC or DC) that the device needs
-In the case of DC, the polarity must be wired correctly to match the device

okay, cool!

I'm going in a bit to find a donor connector for the ac adapter.

The output is 12vac, 1000mA, which the device calls for from the manufactures website (Needham emp-10 programmer)..
I happened to purchase a power supply for the next device revision, which also calls for the same specs, but uses a different connector.

input 120V 60Hz 18W
output 12VAC 1000mA

Don't forget to make sure you have the polarity right...

Not all electronics are center positive.
