It's an upright cabinet, but my main question is.. is it true that people had problems with the monitors back in the days, and its one of the reasons why it's so hard to find? Wikipedia (..i know) says that the upright version used a Zenith med-res monitor that was known to go to crap after a year or so. It seems to be in good shape (even if the cabinet art is a bit fruity to my liking..let's just say early '90 design concept aged badly..

What are the main things that could fail on those VR machines?

The video board in the pcb stack has a chip that goes bad very frequently. Fortunately, you can steal a video board off of a Virtua Figher boardset to replace it with.

A bunch of the info on Wikipedia is wrong, including a lot of the VR info.

The WG K8000 monitors which are in most of these did seem to fail a lot. That said, I've had a couple repaired and they have worked well since. If the monitor was going to crap out after a year or two, wouldn't it have been repaired or replaced by now?

By far the bigger problem is the boardset. The CPU board fails fairly often, and the video PCB fails a LOT. And yes, a Virtua Fighter 3D board is a direct replacement and those don't fail nearly as often.

When you say "fail", does that mean the game just resets and needs to cool off for a while, or does it mean that the board is completely fried and is useless until repaired/replaced?
