do you love the game for the game itself or the cab??

now, before ya answer let me put a few things out there. this has nothing to do with mame systems or the xx in 1's and such. this has to deal with dedicated pcb's only with no multi-game hacks on it. also, this only deals with games you would put into your gameroom.

will you put a pcb of a game you love in another cab no matter how bad it looks...( not junk or water damaged, just ugly )... just so you can have that game in your gameroom to play.... ( love of the game )

or, does the pcb have to be in the original cab or close to it before ya put it out for all to see.... ( love of the cabinet )

i have a jammatized bezerk cab ( i didn't do it ) that i've thrown a crazy climber pcb in....( came with a jamma hook-up ) it has the wrong cpo, 2 different joysticks and wrong marquee and i could care less. my love for the game out shines the fugliness of the cab.

here's the only decent pic i have of my crazy climber/relief pitcher/bezerk in all it's awesome fugliness.

The game... There are certain cabs that have an incredible look but I wouldn't want them because I don't like the game coughTroncough.

I have a Time Soldiers kit installed in an old Zaxxon cabinet. While the cab itself is not the greatest looking (And very heavy!), the game is a blast. I'll put a photo up on here later.

I see no problem with what you're doing, enjoy your games...

Personally, I like having the cabinet as much as the game... otherwise I would have just stopped with my MAME setup (my first game). It's nice to have a little history and an original game. Especially if you are lucky enough to get the exact game you played 25 years ago... that adds a huge nostalgiac factor.

I tend to look at the whole package. If the cabs ugly, I dont want it, and if I dont like the game, I dont want it. Everyone has a happy medium but its usually impossible to try to explain it.

I personally have nothing against conversions and wouldnt hesitate to own one, as long as its within my own standards. When its something obvious though, like a converted Tempest, or a converted MC, or a converted Nintendo, I tend to stay away, unless its something I intend to convert back to its former glory.

+1.
I agree a hundred percent. MAME is a way to play anything, but it's the art on the original cabs which pulls us into the "arcade" world.
So many crappy games are out there which are in colorful, inventive, and well-artsy cabs. Some of these games I'd care less for, but the cool cabs almost make the games more enjoyable for me.
