Ablaze 3-LED #555 Wedge Base Lamp

Kinda confused/ worryed about what i ordered from BCS this afternoon.

Seems like they are not selling it anymore? Or did i just get the last one??

There site is kinda confusing on what your really buying for the price .

When you do, show us the pics. I've put LEDs in my W?D inserts, but made some artistic changes... hehe. I love the way it looks now. The back box, being so blue oriented, I thought would look good with LEDs. Not bad now, but maybe better with. So, again... show pics!

John - I will take before and after pics. I like the change in your WCS 94 playfield - very nice. Do you have pics of the lighting in your W?D as well?

Thanks,

RussM

Not a before and after pic, but I could just shoot some now. I found the whites in spots to be too white in W?D. So, I changed a few of them to colored LEDs instead. Also, no matter what color you use for the pictures of the characters, they were just way way TOO bright. So, use a frosted bulb for those. Normal white LEDs look stupid there because they almost washed out the faces.

One thing I noticed about this whole process now is that yellows and reds don't make a huge difference in color or brightness when going from bulb to LED. I still do it, but it's not a shocking change. Other colors, however, are a HUGE change. Whites have a hint of blue to them. Greens, blues and purples pop like you wouldn't believe. And, in my experience, orange actually do look better (even though yellows and reds don't change much).

Yeah, I'd love to see what you did with some of the playfield lighting on your Who Dunnit.

If you don't mind also being specific about what colors you put where...if I like it I might mod mine similarly.

I should be able to order the backbox LEDs for mine next month.

I'll keep you in the loop.

Well, since you asked, here's my picture. It may result in boisterous laughter from pinball purists, but after having a pin with LEDs right next to this one, this one just looked.... bad. I HAD to do something. Some of the whites were just too damn white, so I changed the colors. You'll notice the elevator lights, for instance, have color now... also, I made the taxi chase orange instead of white. For the rest, they're all original colors. The clues and the equipment in the game aren't as overly white as this picture would suggest, and I had to tone down the faces so they didn't get too bright... because, unlike other others, those WERE too bright.

EDIT: one thing you don't see here is I added a LED flasher in the phone, too. Looks awesome when it rings. No bleeding of color from under, as I put a piece of tin foil under it to shield light from coming out. Sounds lame, but you can't see any of the foil as it's totally concealed from any angle you could possible look. You'd have to take the phone up and off and hold it in your hand to see it.

I sure don't. It was a combination from BCS and pinball life. I will say that the lights in the slot machine are from BCS. They are the LEDs that look like normal bulbs, as the pinball life ones are too harsh when shown through the window. Also, those are fun to change, since you have to take that whole mechanism out and apart to get to the bulbs.

The mystery spot is purple right now, but I was debating using a color changing one. But, it may draw too much attention to it, which is why I left it as is. All I can say is it's easy to simply lift up your pin, see what's where, then decide what colors you wish to use.

Also, I used LEDs in the two spot lights that focus on the slot machine. Gives it an (IMO) awesome looking blue hue to the playfield... really adds a neat color and feel to the game without being over powering. Nothing neater than seeing this go into spin when all the lights turn off, and you just have your slot machine spinning with this sort of scooby doo faint blue lighting effect in the dark.

All other lights, I left as bulbs. I'm one of those guys that firmly believe to NOT mess with GI lighting, as I've never seen GI lights with LEDs look too good. However, I feel inserts just deserve LEDs. Makes the machines look so much more WOW.

How much did that end up costing you? Looks very nice BTW

I got my Kit today from BCS

Sitting here waiting for a respond to an e-mail i sent an hour ago on Led Mapping quest.

I looked though the Kit on the Main Doors are Orange? Theres on 7 Orange in the Kit. But there is 14 Orange Main Doors?

I requested the list where the leds went when he shipped the leds. So i would'nt be sitting here waiting.

Needing help

Needing help here badly Got this kit from BCS

He has'nt responded yet.. I'm trying too do this kit on my own. Is there a trick too getting this Leds too work?

Everyone that i put in the machine they work for 15 sec i got too tighten the bulb and it stopped working. Then i can'nt get the Led too work no matter how i put it in.

Please help guys this should'nt be this hard.

Okay, I haven't ever done the pre made kits... I always decide myself what I want to go where. Right now, deciding on a Fish Tales to do white in the fish on the stringer or the colors of the fish.

But anyhow, on the getting them to work, I know I had to pull apart each side of the LED's wires so they fit snugly in the sockets. I found that they didnt' work when I first started this, and I was confused (and pissed). But just gently pull the wire on one side out a bit, then the other. Straight out but at an angle... then try them. You'll see that should do the trick. Good luck on everything else. I guess it's up to you, as doing LEDs is a mod, and modding is really up to the person modding... you. :)

I got the list of where everything goes tonight as i was just giving up for the day.. Go figure that huh?

Yeah i was very pissed when nothing was working right and it was getting hot in the room.

Trying too figure out all these kinds of Leds is like a Puzzle.

How do you remove the tighted socketed 555 Lamps?

How do you remove 555s? Twist them out! Just twist one way, pull out the socket and the bulb, take bulb out, put LED in, twist that black part back into the board. But, I'm guessing you were asking something else? I'm confused by the question. ;)

Just a Update I Installed the kit today . I really like the white and Red Leds but the others not so much.

The main Doors bulbs are Amber and not Orange or whatever color they should be .

I need too buy the rest of the bulbs for the upper playfield.

I could'nt belive how dirty my hands got from these dirty lamps i was removing.

I'm pretty happy i got that done today i've wanted too do that for awhile.

Whites with LEDS where the inserts are intended to be white look amazing, I think. I feel that yellows and reds don't matter if you replace them or no in the brightness department. However, since LEDs go off and on instantly instead of die out compared to bulbs, I always felt that you should replace those too, to give the light show a more uniform look.

TZ has so many reds/oranges/yellows, that I'm not sure how much satisfaction you would get out doing a LED replacement on it. Glad you're happy. Get a game with lots of blues, greens and purples, and just watch the colors change. If you get a WCS, it's a must on that table.

And some 555s are just hard as hell to unscrew out of there.

One last question: When you bought your kit from BCS, they were color appropriate, is that correct? In other words, he didn't just put all whites in, correct? It sounds like, on the website, that they're all just whites, but you made it seem as if they are color matched.
