Abandoned Food Fight UR #1966 Restoration

I put the new carriage bolt in my drill and hold a piece of sandpaper. Once all the text is sanded off i switch the sandpaper out for polish and a rag.

Spent some time today cleaning up the kickplate art.

The before state was after trying to clean the whole cab with simple green and windex as I did the CPO. The bottom of the kickplate in particular was very resistant to cleaning and was pretty gross on the bottom.

I put a board under the cab to prop it up at a slight angle backwards, and went to town. My methodology was isopropyl alcohol applied with a magic eraser, with a heavy scrub (particularly on the white areas) and then paper towel with windex to clean up any residue and prevent streaking.

Much, much nicer now.

Now I really have to do something about that busted out coin door. I can tell the coin bucket is still in there which is cool. I think I have a spare over/under I can use for this.

A big plus is that you don't have ugly lockbar holes.
Yeah I'm not sure what I would have done in that case. I've sometimes filled them, sometimes not on our other games. But never had them in a game with kickplate art.

Nice work to date, and good to see another one being saved! Mine was in much worse shape to start but anything is possible and so worth it in the end!

What was ultimately your Harness solution? I know phet used a dig dug harness... Seems like a pretty close match in terms of cabinet layout.

If I remember correctly, I pieced 2 different Atari harness's together (Not sure if it was a Dig Dug) but for the connector, the same # of pins, for A/C, speakers, used the Atari wiring that was existing, drew out a diagram for the remainder, labled them with painter's tape & sharpee, popped them out, reinserted in the correct place according to schematic, when tested working, took off the tape, washed it in warm water with greased lighting, let it air dry, put it back in.

Copper thieves should have molten copper poured down their throats like a Game of Thrones episode  They're like locus in some areas leaving nothing but destruction and squalor behind them.

Drilled out the lock on the coin vault door and removed it. I'll try to restore an alternate door to put in its place. The coin bucket was still in there.

Also interesting, there's a date on the coin vault door - 9/83. Maybe that's when this cab left the factory. Pretty cool!

Here's the full story on Food Fight!
Warehouse raid with 16 games. Fun Stuff!

Anyway, spent some time today working on coin doors.

I had three fucked up over under doors, and I figured I could make one good one out of them.

So I stripped them, down, chose the best parts, and sanded those (after hammering them back into shape)

Followed by three coats of Rustoleum Satin Black (my favorite!)

Time to let them dry!

it sticks a bit on opening and closing
It looks good!

One of my favorite things with a new game is taking the couple minutes to bend the door so it works without any interference. Make it happen! Sometime pliers are enough (maybe use a rag or tape the teeth) or a rubber mallet and block of wood. Soooo satisfying having a non-binding door.

Great to see a Food Fight being brought back to life!

My own Food Fight deconversion/restoration project has been languishing for a couple years now.

Since I don't have everything I need for the Harness just yet, I've been spending more time spot cleaning the sides. I have invested more time into scrubbing this game clean than I have actually repairing some other games lol.

Really tried to clean up those Chefs as best I can.

I also did adjust the coin doors so that they open and close smoothly.

Locks, Leg Levellers, and a boatload of zipties are on order.
