A year ago, around this date, I bought my first cab from a local reseller. I knew nothing about arcade machines at all, except for what I had read on the internet, some of friends called me crazy for spending money on a huge box of wood with an old monitor and a game that can be easily emulated for free, but to hell with them!

I've learned so much with this forum that I managed to restore that mk machine back to its roots. There's still a lot of work to do on some of those games (the big white showcase cab will be cleaned and painted black this weekend), and I must redo the Killer Instinct cpo. That Super Chase machine needs a few tweak, the monitor is a bit green, what could be the cause of that? Hmm!

Anyhow, enjoy the pics, sorry if they are a bit big, but I just wanted to say thanks to all klovers!

edit: the MK and KI2 cabs' monitors are perfect "in real life"; I forgot to tweak a setting on my camera before taking the pic :p

Very nice. It's always nice to see what you can achieve.

That Neo Geo is awesome. I can't wait to get mine up and running (it's a little bigger though, as it's the 6 slot cab)

Thats the spirit! :)

Your Neo geo and MK are rather nice. :luigi:

Very nice! I started about a year ago as well, and now I have a room with 7 machines in it!! I only have space for one more, so it has to be a good one (probably Star Castle.)

It always starts with 1 (or 2) and goes up from there. Looks like you're running a multi in one of your NG slots. Which multi did you get? I just got my 150 cart in yesterday, and I'm really enjoying it.

I was running a multi in it, I took it out when I realised it would screw with the other carts. The other normal, retail games would never keep their settings or highscores! It was annoying to adjust the games manually when people came over. I took it out a while ago, I just never updated the marquee. The game in it now are Samurai Showdown 1, Viewpoint, Leaguel Bowling and Bust-A-Move. Bust-A-Move gets ALL the gametime; people just love that game

Nice start to the addiction. As for the green in the monitor... You can adjust it if you have not. If you tried, you can cap it. If you did that, it could still be a chassis problem (pot out of spec, etc.) or even the tube needing to be rejuvenated (weak red with weak blue = strong green). I doubt it is the tube. Start a monitor repair thread and I am sure you will get some help.

Edit: if you adjusted green down all the way, turn up blue and red, and adjust the brightness down to see if that will get it.

Very nice, do you have "Fist of the Northstar"? I also started a little over a year ago, Feb of 09 to be exact.

Very addictive hobby, bought my first machine in March, used original Ms. Pac Man. Today I just bought my 9th machine.

:O

I bought my 8th machine recently and I've been in the hobby (well, got my first, actually got into the 'hobby' and trying to get more about 3 years back) for 8 years. That's amazing.

I know, I have issues. Came in contact with an older gentlemen who has a bunch of stuff that he wants to get rid of. His garage reminded me of one of those hoarder tv shows. Could barely get through to see the stuff. Most of it is older than I am looking for, but some nice games. Has some of the old bowling machines, shooting gallery type units, and some card machines. Don't know the real condition till we can get the stuff out. Even has an airplane in the back of the garage that is in pieces. :)

Congrats!

Thanks for reminding me but I bought my first 1 year ago as well :)

Boy that year went by fast......

A year ago I owned 5 uprights, all stored at a buddy's house, and I lived with my longtime girlfriend in a 775 sq. ft. 1BR condo. A short while later those cabs moved into a storage unit and started replicating like bunny rabbits.

Today I'm married to said gf and own a 2600 sq. ft. house with a basement arcade almost as big as the condo we just moved out of, and it has 23 cabs in it with 3 more on the way.

Yeah, it sneaks up on you. :D

The hobby is VERY addictive. It's also pretty cool meeting fellow KLOV members local (and not so local) to you. Everytime I see someone drive by with an arcade game strapped to the back of their truck I wish I could get them to pull over so I can talk to them lol (not everyday you see an arcade game ride by.)

Bought my first game from forum member Troxel back in March of this year, picked up two more in April, yet another in May, purchased a project cockpit this past Thursday, and I might be adding another one before the weekend is done. Yea, it's a nasty habit that takes over, but what can you do? Say no? I don't think that's in my vocabulary :D

I love reading stories of how people started and what they have done within the first few months.
