A Trip to the Bronze Age, with Bigfoot Bonkers by Meadows (Video included!)
Sometimes a game just finds you. I had been enjoying the bronze-age classics at Videotopia this month and thinking how they really round out a room, and then this little guy popped up on Craigslist.
Bigfoot Bonkers, from Meadows Games! The internet has surprisingly little to offer on this game. Is it rare? Maybe. I can only find two people on the entire interweb that seem to have one. I can't find any record of one working. This particular example is working perfectly and in great shape, with the exception of the bottom, which managed to get a little wet at some point, as so many of our poor cabinets seem to do. It has a little swelling, but has managed to hold together just fine. Apart from that, the bezel is nice, the screen is nice, the sticks are nice, the CP is nice, it's just nice!
I did find a couple of surprises out there while probing the depths of Google. First, the game has been emulated in MAME. Unfortunately there are some problems with the emulation, most notably that the single player mode does not work at all. The emulation is also missing the DIP setting to reduce the attract mode sounds, which you really want to do. The second surprise was that our very own Gozer has modeled this game in Sketchup. It blows my mind that a game without even a scanned manual on the internet already has a full solid model. Well done, Sir!
I cleaned up the game and rebuilt the sticks, and my plan is to enjoy it for a while then trade for something on my "list". In the meantime though, I'm already enjoying it more than I expected
Here's a short video showing more of the game and some gameplay. If anyone out there has a manual, shoot one my way!
