A sneak peek at my next game restoration...

As promised, pictures.

Here's the wood control panel, before I started. The previous owner had filled in 6 holes, and drilled 4 new ones. All of this needed to be fixed.

Here's a shot of the wood dowels, cut to size, and being dry-fitted before being glued in.

And the finished product, after I removed the bondo plugs, and glued in the dowel. I had to re-drill the center holes after gluing in the dowel plugs.

You can also see the replacement sides I made for the control box here too.

Finally, here's a side view of the 1st side, art stripped. I still have some clean up to do in some areas, but this is pretty close.

Nicely done. The end result will be well worth the effort. I LOVE my MK2 cabinet. Was so happy to get it restored and in working order again. Appreciate seeing more of these classics brought back to life. (And yes, it's a classic. It's 26 years old or so. It counts. lol).

Spent more time working on the MKII yesterday. Focused my efforts on getting the control panel done. I got my 1/16" slot cutter bit for the router last week, so I was able to cut the slot for t-molding.

Installing the side art on the control panel box:

I like the way the woodgrain of the birch ply shows through the vinyl.

Lower half of the box done.

Test fitting the control panel, after installing the buttons, sticks, and overlays. It's starting to look pretty nice now.

Getting closer. I had some time to sort out the wiring harness on the game last weekend. The old harness had been hacked up a bit to add the extra edge connector for the extra player buttons on Tekken. I removed the extra edge connector, replaced the .100 IDC connector for the low-kick & low punch buttons, and we're all set. Also replaced the locks in the coin doors, and the starter and bulb in the marquee fixture.

Tonight I'll cut some plexiglass for the marquee and get to work on the rest of the t-molding.

Initially I was worried that I might need to replace the tube since there is vertical burn in ("game over" from Aero Fighters) but after the test firing, I think I'm going to leave it!

Just a quick preview vid:

This makes me happy since I have a minty MKII which has had zero restore work, but I'll likely never see any ROI on it since I never plan to sell. :D I can't wait to see the outcome of this MKII restore! Good luck!
$2k come and get it! LoL...

Just kidding, I'd never sell.

Came to this post a bit late. Nice job on stripping those sides and filling in the extra holes on the wood and metal cp. It came out great. Always amazes me how original games are just hiding below vinyl or paint waiting to be re-born. It's a super nice MK2 you now have. :)

Thanks!

Believe it or not, I AM still working on this game. It's surrounded by 3 other game projects all going on at the same time: 2 Golden Tee cabs, a Joust, and this one.

A few weekends ago I did finally work up the nerve to pull out the 25" TV I was holding for a tube swap. I now have a 100% burn-free monitor. Very happy :D
