So I broke the seal today: I put a game in storage. No, not a mini-storage unit kind of storage. It's just a garden shed on my property.

I've always been leery about putting a game in storage for fear of becoming the next episode of Hoarders. I try like hell to keep my collection under control to the point that I don't have to store games in places other than my gameroom or garage.

Now granted, I only plan on storing this game out there in the garden shed until winter, when I can begin working on it. But still, I feel like I'm entering a realm that can be a slippery slope. First, it's the garden shed, then asking friends to store games, then it's off to mini-storage with me.

*sigh*

Anyone else feel like this?

You have firm plans for the game, so it doesn't seem like a huge deal. If you were pleasure buying, impulse buying, or buying just because the game was close and cheap; and you still had no idea if you might keep it, sell it, or part it out etc., then you might have a problem. I have 1 game in my garage that I am going to restore. It won't be this year, but I'll get to it. I won't be adding any more broken ones...

I am having a storage shed delivered next week. It's mainly for storing things that SHOULD be in the garage (bikes, mower, garden tools, snow blower snowmobile, Christmas decorations, garage sale stuff), just so I can use the garage (as it's heated) for game storage. I have 13 projects out there, 5 of which I have started and plan to finish, 3 of which I have started but want to unload as is, 2 that I am going to trash and 3 that I haven't done anything to but do plan on restoring and keeping. Just listing all that made me sad.

I want to see that list, but I don't want to make you sad.

I have a storage unit with about 10 arcade games and 3 pinball machines right now. When we moved I had to keep them there for a bit, but I'm planning on heading over and pulling them out one at a time slowly. By the end of August I'd like to have all of them at the new house.

mine started with games in the room i build cabinets in, and stuffed in the den. Then i built a 12X16 barn and packed it full. THen the mower sat outside, so i rented a 10X20 storage unit, so the barn is only 3/4 full. 3 months later, i still have 10 games in the back room, den is full, shed is 80% full, and my 10X20 has room for 1 more game and it's full.

I'm in the same boat, I just moved my Galaxian to friends house for storage, and I feel weird about it. I'm also starting to have parts and things scattered all over my garage.

Hah! You are f#ck*d!!! Next step, this one will only be in the kitchen a couple weeks honey...

:-D

It all about space... I stole the the neighbors garage and I put 2 cargo containers in the driveway to get out of pblic storage. Plus I have games at some friends homes. They don't mind, so I will take the free storage.

If you have a long term plan to get out of storage your fine. If not, if you have mild climate, your games will be fine in a shed.

You guys are lucky...I am only "allowed" 4 games in the rec room at a time. Trust me...its not worth the fight.i already have a star wars...tron....restoring my edot....then can only get one more unless I unload one of the other ones....which I don't plan on doing....:/

i only have 4 games too, two video games, one pinball and a foosball table. gave away my pool table and sold several video games, of course my wife also puts up with my vintage drums, PA system, amplifiers, vintage and modern recording gear, thousands of vinyl records, etc so i dont push the issue too much. wouldnt mind picking up a few more video games and maybe an EM rifle game eventually though...

go on you can do it.

join the dark side.

3 of my friends have banging game rooms.

plus i have a 12x25 storage unit, my house, a shed, and a 8x15 connex container.

Slippery slope indeed...

I was paying $80/mo for an 8x5 storage locker,
... to store project games I bought for $50.

Even though I knew the math made no sense,
and I'd most likely never have the time to work on them
(... 3 kids, full-time day job, and Hobbyroms in the evening... ),
I still kept the locker for 18 month before coming to my senses...

Sold the games for pretty much what I bought them for
and ended-up "wasting" $1500 for the storage fees...

Lesson-learned....

;-)

It is a slippery slope, but one game in a shed in your backyard isn't even nearing the precipice.

My living room is overfilled due to too many games. Pin in the bedroom (where I intended to have no games). 2 (soon to probably be 3-4) games at the office in the break room. And 2 rented storage garages (1x 10x20 non-CC for projects, 1x 10x10 CC for parts, artwork, and pins).

And I'm probably about to see if I can get into 2x 10x20 CC units to swap out for the current arrangement when I get back. Have been thinking lately that even for projects non-CC is a bad idea.

And if I fill both of those? I'd probably just rent a 3rd. I need to quit being lazy and get a damn house already. :(

Currently waiting for a friend to finished His garage. I've got him to promise I could you use a wall. A 30' wall, I'm going on a shopping spree come this fall.

In the end he's going to get all the play out of them till I get my own house, so even trade.

I have felt like this. I used to have a storage unit, games in the garage so you couldn't park in it, games at friend's houses and game at a pool hall. Storage units are ridiculous, you end up paying more than the stuff is worth. Finally bought a house, so now I have everything back home. I have a heated 3rd car garage under the foundation of the house that is perfect for storing and working on games. I will never go the storing route again.

I have one game in the house. It's a generic cabaret with a Mr Do in it. It was my first game. Game was free, but I've been paying for the addiction ever since. I have a 36 x 28 barn. I have everything out there including games. Games are scattered about anywhere I can fit them. I am always working on making the barn a better environment for the games. There are some small leaks in the ancient metal roof, but nowhere near the games. The roof is my next main project. I recently completed an additional floor structure at the upper area of the barn so now there are 3 floors @ 28x36. The base floor is not really that great for games. The plan is to have the third floor dedicated to games. I made a special 4x8 hole in the floor structure to be able to lift games up through. Sooooo the moral of my story is when I start to feel like I am running out of room, I just build more. It's slow going though, because my day job is accounting. :)
