OK... wifes wedding ring has broke the weld between the engagement ring and wedding band. It's just a TINY little "weld"... do soldering irons get hot enough to re-weld that tiny little weld or should I just go in and cough up the $30-$50 or so they'd likely charge to re-weld the rings together?

Nevermind... I just looked and the melting point for gold is about 4.5x hotter than the melting point for solder... my guess is a big fat "no".

While wielding a wedding ring isn't that hard. It is something you shouldn't be practicing on.

Small metal bits can turn to mush really quickly.

Honey, I Melted your ring isn't going to make you a hero to her.

Honey I got your ring fixed is. Will make you a hero..

Good luck.

what the hell, her wedding ring cost ya 3 months of salary and you won't pay $50 to get it fixed?! wow.

A car battery shorted to the chassis of the car will weld a wedding band. Ask me and my 3rd degree burned finger how I know. Lol

Seriously, pay to have the ring fixed!
That's pretty cheap on the list of "I bought a Heroship" items.

It will also liquify a wrench and set your tires on fire!!! Ask me how....oh nevermind.

I never said I "won't" or "would not" or "ain't" or any such nonsense anywhere in my post.

I wasn't sure if a soldering iron was hot enough to handle the situation (it's not)... there is a single TINY weld on the inside... if it were possible, I'd have likely given it a go, but it's not, so I'll go get it fixed.

only because when your great, great, great granddaughter gives her great, great, great, great, great great granddaughter your wifes ring, it doesn't have a tiny blah, blah, blah on it

:)

I have a son. I think the ring stops with the wife, but who knows.

Leaded solder will turn black by the salt in the sweat

Lead free solder is stronger and has a higher melting point.
I used it on a metal frame set of spectacles, but it broke again in a week or so

Silver solder is hotter again, but the heat from the blow torch will stuff the ring for good
A soldering iron will not get hot enough for this type of solder

Let the experts do it, as others have said :)

Start a fire. Throw the ring into the fire. If small foreign letters appear then try to get rid of it. If not, have it fixed by someone who knows how to do it ;)
NO!!! If you see foreign lettering appear, get a much bigger fire! DO IT NOW!!!
