Is this the right manual for the DK cocktail/4board PCB?
http://www.arcadedocs.com/vidmanuals/D/dktkg3up.pdf

I just got a new harness(the old one was a crazy homebrew hackjob) so I can finally try to get everything going, and I figured it wouldn't be too hard to just open it up and plug things in.... and wow was I wrong, I think I'll need a manual for this one.

Thanks,
-Sean

PS: Any good tips for someone tinkering around inside a machine for the first time?

DK cocktail could be TKG2 or TKG3. Both should be 4 board sets. What's your issue? Just need to know the locations to hook up the wires?

The cocktail manual says "TKG3-TBL" on the cover. (well, mine does anyway :) )
As far as the wiring goes, if you're trying to figure out where all the ribbon cables go on the 4 boards, other than the big ones that connect the pairs of boards together, each one of the smaller ribbon cables is a different size.

When I got the DK cocktail it had a working Mappy PCB in it which was hooked to the machine with what looks to be a homebrew Jamma connector. The DK 4 board came in a cardboard box and the guy said while the board works, the homebrew connector is completly screwed and you need to buy a new wiring harness. So, I bought a new wiring harness to hook the PCB to the machine and that is where i'm stuck. It is a big mess or wires inside with homebrew jamma connectors attached to the DK PCB and the inside of the machine. Where I'm getting stuck is trying to sort this mess out. I was hoping the manual will help me decipher what goes where, because right now I'm just thoroughly confused.

Thanks for the help,

-Sean

Ah ok...didn't realize when you said it was a hackjob, that it was *THAT* bad ;) I haven't looked at the PDF (wasn't loading up for me), but mine does have a wiring diagram that shows what's connected in the machine to the PCB, power supply, monitor, etc.

I put a bunch of pictures of the setup on flickr, as they were way to big to post here. The link is:

I'm curious what your thoughts are on this setup. My biggest concern is making sure I have everything I need to hook it up, i'm kind of worried looking at this rig that they may have cut some wires and I'll need more stuff above and beyond what the new harness has. And I think it does have the original power supply

Thanks for the help,

PS, I wasn't sure if flickr was the best place to post the pics, but it was the first one that came to mind...

OK. Looked at the pic's. The good news is you have the original PS in the cabinet and looks like you have some original wire harness components.

If it was me I would start by disconnecting all the wiring from the game boards that does not connect the boards to each other. Just the loose stuff that connects into the game cabinet.

In your picture "insidecab02", the power supply is in the lower left corner and it looks like it has one harness connected to it. This is the 9P harness. 9P is 9 pins. You will also notice that the power supply has connectors for a 10P and 7P harness. 2 things here:

1) does the other end of the 9P harness that's in there still have the same connector on the other (non power supply) end. If it does, you can re-use it, if it doesn't hopefully you have a new 9P harness.

2) Look through your new cables and see if you have a 10P harness and a 7P harness. The nice thing about this as mentioned earlier is tha most if not all the harness' have a different number of pins and can't go in the wrong spot.

Let's start there and get you game board prepared by removing all the existing potentially not needed wiring, and get your power supply harness' installed via above.

I'll look at the rest of the pictures and start on the rest of the connections.
