Example: I was just looking at, Shawn's (Phetishboy) PC-10 restoration. I came to the pic of him placing it in his gameroom. A thought crossed my mind.

For all you multiple vids and pins owners. Do you find that having a huge collection, takes away from actually playing all the games you own? Do some seem to sit while others get alot of playtime? Just curious. Anyone with more than 10 machines or pins can chime in.

I meet your criteria, I have a few too many. I find that I fix as much as I play (maybe more) I think I like fixing them just as much as playing them. It is a lot of work, especially pins. Heck it takes me a 1/2 hour jus to clean glass.

I think anyone who owns more than 1 machine can tell you that some get played more than others.

I find myself drawn more to the repair aspect of games. I do play them, but usually only when I'm entertaining guests.

My Co-op games (like Double Dragon, Raiden II, etc) get the most play. I like letting others join in the fun.

Right on!

BTW: I only own 5 arcade games and zero pins, in case anyone wondered.

I think anyone with more than 10 (myself included) would say that there are some that get neglected. I'm trying to thin my collection out to around 5 or 6 from around 30.

As a kid, I remember being OCD about playing certain games. I regret it now. I think of alot of classic titles that i passed, in favor of my "must plays". That was a huge arcade tho. Now that we are older, we can choose what we stock our rooms with. One would think that they all would get a little lovin!

Sure I have games that dont get a whole lot of play.. others are my favorites
When I look around my arcade I really cant see myself getting rid of any of them though.

I spend a lot of time fixing, restoring stuff, buying parts, etc.. I probably play 2-3 games a night. But I suck.. so they dont last long:)

I have my favorites (pins and vids) which I play more often than others, especially for a quick break. I chose the games for my collection carefully so they have staying power either with me or when people come over to play. I like games that are played cooperatively or can be played with more than one player. My six player puck bowler is always a favorite at parties. Having people over to play is great motivation to maintain the games, especially the pins which need more TLC.

I do not play one or two on purpose for a long time then play them so I can re-discover the joy of the games all over again.

Having many games, it seems as though there is always something going down. Especially when you have guests. Then entire rows of games go down. Like many others here have mentioned, i like working on them almost as much as playing.

Right now i'm trying to stock my arcade with plenty of two (or more) player simultaneous games. I've got toobin', mario bros, joust, track and field, and maybe someday a super off road or championship sprint or something. Most the people that visit tend to gravitate toward those games there where they can help/kill each other. It usually starts with trying to help until someone accidentally kills the other, then it turns into a kill fest.

Agreed. Believe it or not, whichever game I have in my rotary cab (currently Time Soldiers) gets the most play when guests are over. Well, that and my PC-10. No one plays Karate Champ or Crystal Castles but me- and that's fine with me!

I have a lot of games, and you're right. There are some I haven't played in awhile. However, all my games get some form of play when having guests and large groups over, and that happens probably twice a month. I've made sure over the years that games that get neglected eventually get sold and others take their place in the arcade.

I think maybe the more finer nuances of games get glossed over, making certain titles not receiving the attention they deserve.

No one gets excited when a bit gets dropped in tron but me in the arcade..

In all honesty... I play my games maybe 30% of the time that I am in the gameroom. 70% of the time I'm working on something... tweaking something... or just sitting there enjoying a little somthin'-somethin' looking at them.

There are some games I've probably not played in over a month. I do make sure to turn them all on at least monthly though.

Like many people with "collections" of various types... it's more about the collection...the collecting...the chase...the restoring... than actually playing them all the time.

I "DO" have a couple cabs that played at least weekly if not daily though.

It just depends on whose over to play them. Mostly its my kids and their friends. They like the newer games like Area 51, Crisis Zone and Cruisin USA while the Playchoice 10,phoenix, Make Trax dont get used at all. If I have my friends over, then my older games get utilized more than the newer ones.

I have 3 pins and 15+ arcades.
Like many, I enjoy working on them as much as the play time.
As far as some getting a lot of play, well the kids absolutely love the prize crane and the Neo Geo, most tokens are recovered from those two. On game nights, guests seem to play pretty evenly which is what keeps me satisfied. I have been through a lot of buying and selling to get the mix I have now..... Good example for me, I loved Off-Road, bought one, realized the game sucks when it's free and sold it. I still have a few that I keep because I want them, not because they get played a great deal too. The Rowe token machine is like that, not a game, but man it's the cherry on top when people come see the room. Really the best way to measure the love a game gets is when you do use tokens, the amount in the coin box, just like BITD.

I play some more than others, but the payoff is when you have people over and the games are all getting played at once. That's like a little slice of heaven, right there.

This be the problem..
I have a ToM that if I played it 10 times (not counting guest) in the last tens year I'd say that was a lot. I almost traded it for a Stern SM but I couldn't pull the trigger. I had a deal for 3 Williams games for my W?D and I bailed

I've bought games (usually as a part of a lot) with the intention to flip them for something I want..and never do it.

I 'm looking at a pair of Rush the Rocks today at an extremely good price. Don't really like the game but my thinking is I could turn them into something else. But if history repeats it's self...I'll fix them..and still have them 10 years later =)

Good answer. I assume most of you guys would say the same.

Absolutely. It's gotta be like owning a muscle car, in a 4 season area of the US. Your only going to drive it for about 3 months and the other 9, it's in storage! :) You just walk by it and say, "Yeah. I own that".

I turned my basement into a barcade.

I'm still under construction, but I mostly stopped playing. I'll fire up a machine now and then... but I really enjoy having them and watching others enjoy them.

There's nothing like being in a room you created, with these awesome pieces of nerd history filling the room with a dim video flicker... the cacophony of beeps, buzzes, conversation and laughter.

I think we as a collective are a bunch of digital nostalgia voyeurs.
