Are there cabs that exist that have no option for setting them up for free play by dip switch? I have a game that does not state in the manual what dip is for switching to free play. If every cab is in fact free play capable, how would I find out what switch does it, or is it the same number switch for every game depending on the manufacturer?

dipswitch 2 - 1 2 3 all off is free play.
Some games don't have freeplay though.

my Top Speed does not allow for free play, so i wired it up to credit when the start button is pushed (there is no "2nd player" button either.)

and this is on the dipswitch bank with 6 positions? Try turning 4 5 and 6 off as well, and if that doesn't work, try turning 4 5 6 all on.
Keep in mind that the power needs to be turned off when changing dip switches.
If that doesn't do it then you've most likely got a dip switch not cutting off.

There are plenty of cabs that have no freeplay. DK dosent but you can get High Score Save/Freeplay Combo Kits for it, as an example. Many similar cases.

Super Pac-Man
Pole Position
Spy Hunter
Tron
Satan's Hollow
Frogger
Pretty much all the classic Nintendo games
Carnival

Afterburner has a free play setting, but it doesn't work, even though it says Free Play on the screen.

I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head...

Yup the six position bank. You know what? My blind ass didn't see in the manual that free play is turned on by switching dip 1,2,and 3 off but guess what? it still doesn't work. On top of that now I have a monitor issue with rolling horizontal lines on the screen and a light popping sound coming from the back of the monitor when the lines roll across. ........... sigh ............

what do you have? I need side art and my steering mechanism is binding.

Well, I have one side of side art but it's naturally on the cab. And the yoke mechanism is staying in the cab.

Eventually after I'm finished with it I'll have an extra Control panel, yoke cover, marquee, and all the boards/ harness.

I have no side art and the retard before me sprayed the whole cab black. The original dark gray can be seen through some of the paint and I want to bring that back as it makes the cab look a bit less plain and generic. If I never get the original side art I would at least like to get a Data east decal for both sides, I also need the overlay that goes on the center of the controls. When you hold your controls and pull them towards and away from you do you have a good amount of play? I have an issue with the nubs that the allen screws go into robbing the plate on the control panel, but when I pull the controls towards me its smooth. Are your boards housed in a huge metal cage mounted on the right side of the cabs inside? I am curious to see if your layout is different from mine.

yes to the huge metal cage on the side, as well as other wiring and boards.

yes to the rubbing on the yoke cover. In fact, right now, one of them has rubbed into the yoke far enough, that I'll need to get another tool to remove the cover.

I could have sworn like mamemarquees or somebody else repro'd the sideart.

While I can't think of too many right now, there are many games without free play. Several Bally/Midway MCR games don't have it, Journey, Wacko, etc.. I also think (not sure) the Sega vectors don't have it (Tac Scan, Space Fury, etc.).

I also had the welds break on my yoke's back plate, they were poorfrom the factory and didn't even have a solid beead. Keep an eye out for that. I had to use two L brackets to rebuild mine since I don't own a welder.
