I want to thank jpopson for my new VS cab.
I recently sold my red tent, as I'd very much prefer a VS cabinet and the hunt was on.

Saw one on craigslist, happened to Mr Popson, and a deal was made.

It's in fantastic shape, with a game I've always wanted to check out, VS Goonies.

Only problem is this thing won't go on the Nintendo row, I'm out of room. Until I finish cleaning up the other half of the basement, the Nintendo row isn't one solid line.

Sorry for the crappy no flash pictures, I need to find my tripod.

Nice Cades, shitty camera work :p

j/k. Glad you found one BTW!

Now get on the ball and get some boards!

Thanks to WarlordAG for helping me bring 2 of my games down into the basement, Centipede and my red tent. Crazy guy thinks the Gauntlet Legends will go down just fine after seeing my stairs. :p

I'm glad I kept my Vs. The Goonies kit so I can eventually make one again. I had a minty Vs. cab that recently restored for it that I sold/traded. I was the opposite. I decided that my red tent was good enough and there was no point in having both. The biggest factor was lack of space.

Congrats on getting it though. I'm probably the only one who thinks it's a fun game to play. :)

When you factor in chairs on each side the red tent uses more of a foot print than a cab in my opinion.

I've played the game a bit tonight. It's a solid Nintendo-era platform game.

Yeah, it was actually originally released in Japan for the Famicom. It's pretty much the exact same game. You're right about the space. My red tent is in the middle of my gameroom and it takes up a lot of space. I may end up moving it to the side of the garage or one of the walls, but then I'd have to move 2 cabs out to the garage. What to do. What to do.

Sell it and get a cabinet back.

I followed your restoration thread throughout, you did a really great job on it.
I can't believe you sold it.

Very...unique...side art positioning I have to say.

I was wondering who would notice that first.
It is weird, but the side art is in really nice shape overall, especially the right side.
You have to wonder what people were thinking sometimes.

Haha. Yeah, I know it's hard for some people to believe that I gave up the cab. Almost every guy who followed my restore told me I was crazy for doing so or that I would regret it. To be honest, I didn't have that much of an attachment to it and I still have no regrets for a handful of reasons:

1. The cabinet was particle board. I did a pretty good job with patching it up, repainting it and cleaning it, but in the long run, I decided I don't want to have any particle board cabs. I have a mild case of OCD when it comes to my cabs and I wasn't completely satisfied with how some of the edges and bottom corners turned out and didn't want to spend the time to fix it knowing it could easily get damaged again.
2. I only restored it so I could house Vs. The Goonies which I kept. PCB, Marquee and serial sticker.
3. Although I spent a good amount of time restoring it, it wasn't really hard for me to do.
4. I don't have a lot of space for games and I had opportunities to pick up a couple of more that could make my game room just a bit more unique.
5. I can always make another Vs. The Goonies upright which I plan to do when we move into a bigger place a few years from now. Nintendo cabs aren't rare. At least since I've been in the hobby.
6. I got a red tent which is much more versatile even though it takes more space.

But I'm glad you picked one up. Not many guys seem to own Vs. The Goonies uprights. It gets no love. I still have it for my red tent so I'm happy. :)

Thanks! I actually didn't do much to it, though I do have a ton of time and a bit of money in the monitor.

What are you scoring on goonies eseyo, one credit?

The record is over 500,000!

I've scored around the 80,000 range just trying to beat the game as fast as I can. But it's the same game every time except the second time around it's harder. There are a bunch of power-ups and secret bonuses that are hidden throughout the game. It's all memorization. So the faster you beat it and if you get all the bonuses, you can score much higher. Here's a strategy guide I used. http://strategywiki.org/wiki/The_Goonies
