A new basketcase to contend with (Space Fury)

I honestly don't know what i'm gonna do with this wreck but i had to buy it just to look at it for a while. The cabinet is swelled, smelly and beyond repair, and the game has absolutely no signs of life other than the monitor fan and back panel fan. The seller was gonna crush it or i was gonna have to take it now and see if i could do something with it.

Of course the GO8 does nothing but it has a beautiful tube and i'm hoping that a bit of cleaning and electrical tinkering will breathe some sort of life into this pig but knowing the history of these boards/monitors, i won't be surprised if it doesn't.

You could look at it like - Any not-common vector game is worth building a new cabinet for, if you have all of the other parts. As much work as it could be, I'd hate to wreck a Zaxxon even if you found a minty cabinet.

If Brett can build that style cabinet, then you could use vertical grade Formica or woodgrain vinyl and go to town.

Since it's all there with a crap cabinet, I'd either build or get a replacement cabinet for it, or sell the parts as a kit to someone who will make a game out of it.

Looks like a fun project. I think I've seen a control panel pop up for sale now and then.

I am sure it smells, but that cabinet doesn't look all that bad!

Trust me, the cabinet has been sitting in a barn for 10 years, it's soaked, smells like swamp water and the bottom is rotted out. harvesting the monitor doesn't do me much good when it's dead and nobody seems to be fixin em either. This could end up as a kit but i'm gonna give it an honest effort first.

Awesome! I hope it works out. I have bought my share of cabinets that stink, but after a few months near a dehumidifier they don't smell much at all any more.

Wow, I haven't seen a Space Fury since 1986. Happy Chef in Winona, Mn had one in the waiting area. Cool game. Hope it all works out for you Chris!

This one brings me back to Sbarro Pizza in the Maplewood Mall, this is where i played the shit out of Dig Dug while space Fury squawked behind me.

An early bright spot has been found though trivial in the grand scheme of things. The transformer and power supply board are all putting out the correct voltages but the board stack is toast. Is there anybody that dares to fix these things and cares to speak up?

WOW that there needs lots of lovin, grab what you can and send the cab down the line, you allways make it work in the end.

Yeah, I would harvest all of the parts and junk the cabinet. The electronics are going to be much easier to work on if they are outside of the cabinet anyway. Then you could have a working Space Fury minus the cabinet. With luck, once you get things working, you could dump the parts into a converted Zaxxon (same cab, I think).

What's ironic is that you gave me a nearly perfect (looking, not smelling) but mostly empty Zaxxon cabinet for less than $20 about 4 years ago. I tried to resell it twice but both deals fell through. I needed the space and finally had to harvest the parts that were left and sledge the big bastard. It met a fiery end in my back yard about 2 years back. Man that marquee rocks. You part it out, I'll take the marquee.

I'd like to see that under a black light. Doesn't Space Fury spontaneously combust?

Sbarro Pizza had their own games in Maplewood Mall back in the day? I remember Circus Pizza of course and the Aladdin's Castle that is still there today. Even the Showbiz across White Bear Ave, but not that. Pretty cool.
