Wow! That looks like it will be really interesting to watch the transformation of the building. I hope it tuns out great!

Interesting. If I'm ever in Missouri, I'll have to check it out.

I'm pretty sure there are more than 3 arcades in the country with more than 50 classic games. I can name 3 off the top of my head: Funspot, Crabtowne and Richie Knucklez. If you count older stuff, then the Retro Arcade Museum would also be on the list.

I think that video of the ceiling (that he wants to duplicate in the arcade) is from Freemont Street in Las Vegas.

I will definitely be checking it out. That is a heritage part of town (the Square) so it should look cool having the arcade and theatre designed mixed together. I wish him luck.

The funny thing is there really was an arcade on the square until 86 or so, only a couple of blocks from where he is going to put his. I spent a lot of time in that arcade and was sad to see it go.

I'd love to see the business plan; it's encouraging to know that it can work. My favorite part of the 2nd clip was seeing that shag carpet rake - I haven't seen one of those since the 70's. We had one for our family room.

Yeh, the shag carpet rack was pretty funny and I laughed when I saw it.

He mentions having 64 games, but his collection used to be well over 100. Unless I am mistaken, that building has enough space for at least 200 games, so maybe he plans to expand the game collection once it gets going. That would be wild to walk in and see a collection that large open to the public. Fingers crossed.

I hope it works but was a little suprised when he said it will be the best classic Arcade in the country, hope it is but bold statement to make.

I ran across this today, thought it was very cool, and that others would think so too! This fellow is in the Kansas City metro area.

Very cool to see someone planning a new, vintage arcade! I cannot wait to see if done, especially that wild ceiling.

Looks like Business Week picked-up the article too.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing! Keep us updated on the progress!

This is very good news. I'd love to see the final building, with games, lights and all. It's just really cool to see another classic arcade opening up, and I hope this one fares better than some of the others. His business plan seems very sound - so I'd say that success is not too far away.

I just wish it was closer to San Antonio!

Ill definitely need to check this out when it's done. Sure hope it doesnt bust. No mention of the 1984 Arcade in Springfield, but then I don't know how many classics they have.

I was just at 1984 in Oct. Great place. I bet they were pushing close to 50 classics when I was there. Also the place was absolutely PACKED. Talking to a few locals its like that damned near every weekend. What was also interesting was the number of kids in there. (5-18) I bet they counted for over 75% of the crowd. I don't know how many parents dropped their older kids off and just left them to play. And it wasn't the gang banger crowd either. The place was clean and well run. The games all worked and the staff was nice. I don't see why the biz cant work elsewhere.

I sure hope you are right since it would be nice to have a local place to play the classics...
Err... besides my own basement. :)

No doubt! Just over 2 hrs from me. I'd be there alot!

You'll have to be our eyes and ears on this since you're in the "neighborhood" so-to-speak.

Wish i was closer. That place looks to be awesome when it's done.
Like he said not to many classic arcades with that caliber or games.
love the shots of the Disc's of Tron and the Dragon's Lair and the Space.
its going to be pretty killer....

it will take a lot of quarters to pay for a 2 million dollar building and restore the building on top of that.. lol

I wish the guy good luck tho.

What I'd do is charge $10 a head to get in the door and then have all the games on freeplay. (its what they do at 1984 in Springfield) Not everybody is gonna play 40 games. Hell I'd even pay $20 to get in...

I am also curious about how they will cover entry fees, game costs, etc. You're probably right about the cover charge with the games set on freeplay.

Hopefully, he'll post additional videos soon.

How awesome! Seeing this gets my blood going!

No doubt, it'll have its challenges, but still a great thing to try and do.
