A mini-garage raid - help me price this deal please

Well Nintendo is all I know cause that's all I've got.
Should be easy to convert to a dk.

Pop out that control panel sell it and pop in a DK. Then get a dk board of course.

Good luck!
Yeah, I've done edumacated myself now on Nintendo stuff.

Apparently, the VS system was a kit install that you retrofitted into a Nintendo cab back in the day. This one must have been done in a DK.

With the exception of the kick plate missing, I believe that cab is in good shape. It would be a good candidate for restoration.

I could move the VS Hogan's Alley over to the other cab, and get a decent DK resto going next winter.

Whatcha yall think?

The more I look at that black cabinet, the more it looks like a VS Unisystem cabinet. I had a dedicated Unisystem and it was an identical shape to that. Are the sides of the cabinet formica? I believe the Unisystem cabinet finish was very different from the playchoice. My Unisystem was a gray formica... if you can check what's under that black paint, it might reveal a few more clues.

I'd have to agree. Plus no operator would have converted a Playchoice to Lee Travino. Playchoice was a hot item when Lee Travino was released.

Would make sense, except this is a bar owner/route we're talking about. I could easily see the appeal of putting a golf game in there over Super Mario Bros. back in the mid to late 80's. Hell...look at Golden Tee.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking happened.

Seller is getting itchy. I think it's time for a lowball offer.

Yup, the Nintendo VS were conversion kits designed for the original Nintendo three: DK, Popeye and Mario Bros. I just bought 3 DK sets from an operator that had converted them from the hairy ape to various VS titles (Duck Hunt, SMB, etc). The conversions are a pretty common site.

The original VS bezels are just a plain smoked/tinted bezel. Some op just flipped around the original bezel.

With a DK harness, and CP you could bring it back to life as a DK. I was foolish enough to convert a Popeye to a DK on my first go. What a god damn nightmare. The PS and the wiring was not compatible at all.

I'm on the verge of scoring an empty Nintendo cab that I'd love to turn into a Hogan's Alley. If you score this and want to unload a Hogan's kit, lemme know...

Shot the seller a lowball offer, and he bit. Looks like I've got some nice restoration candidates now for this winter ;)

The Donkey Kong cab's tag on the back says it's model number TPP2-UP-US with serial number 94955. The cab's color tells me it was actually originally a Donkey Kong, but the serial number tab tells me that it was maybe converted to Popeye at some point, right?

The Playchoice cab is model number MGS-UP-US with serial number 13495.

Is the metal serial tag still on the back of the Hogan's Alley? That would be an easy way to tell.

That is a Popeye serial # so it must have started life as the old sailor. Can you tell if the monitor has been rotated from the horizontal Popeye to the vertical DK?

It's still horizontal, with Hogan's Alley in it. Is it possible that it went straight from Popeye to Hogan's Alley? Did they make a Popeye cab in blue?

The DK I had started out as a Popeye. It still had the tag. It also had a DK3 tag and a Vs. tag as well. Then at some point it was converted to DK. Certainly went around the block. It was still a DK when I sold it.

If this had been my buy, I would have left the Fighting Golf there and got the Hogan's Alley. For $100 it sounds like an easy fix to get the monitor looking right and sound working. I would ditch the DK bezel and put a piece of tinted plex in there (what is usually found in Vs games, or sometimes tinted glass). I would keep the gun on there and put Duck Hunt in it. I love that game. Haven't played it in years but I remember seeing a Vs. Duck Hunt in a bar as a kid (yeah, kids can legally be in bars in Nebraska). Then, of course, I played it on my NES (no longer have the cartridge or gun, though). However, the Vs. version is better because you can shoot that f*cking dog!

At any rate, paying less than $100 for each of those isn't too shabby at all.

Cool beans!

You have some of the best luck with games! Last time you wound up with free pizza wonder what you will parlay these into :D

Congrats!
