A pipe leak caused me to move all my games out of the game room. Figured since its a mess anyway, why not finish up those last few items I never got around to? First was to paint white outlet covers dark blue, easy. Next is just random patching and then repainting, again pretty easy stuff. The part I'm getting stuck on is how to mount my marquees.

I have low ceilings and only one location that is available for mounting, along the duct work framing. The ducts are framed with 2x2's. I thought I could run a piece of molding along the bottom edge and just set the marquees in allowing them to lean in place. I found a corner piece that is 1 1/8", but that isn't a lot of space to work with ~ to secure it in place and for a marquee which can be almost 1/4 thick in some cases.

I could buy some stock and cut/route my own marquee shelf I suppose, but its cold as heck here and I'm not anxious to drag out the tools and work in the garage. I thought about aluminum angle, but that stuffs not cheap! I was hoping someone might have an obvious solution that I'm missing.

why not the plastic holders that are used to keep mirrors on the wall?. put two on each bottom corner and one in the middle top (or two in the corners to keep symmetry)..

i thought about this alot and shelving made to hold decotative plates would work well..

lemme see if i can find a pic of what im talking about.. its basically short shelving with a angled routed groove in it for the plate to sit on... then angle is there to both hold the bottom of the plates and also encourages the top of the plate to sit against the wall at an angle..

making something out of wood with a groove like pic 3 of this auction is what im thinking.. paint flat black mount done then if you have use for marquee later its eazy to rearrange without having a bunch of extra holes in your wall

some 2"x2" or 3"x3" black plastic angled plastic would work too but my search fu has failed to find any... you know its gotta be out there somewhere...

mirror brackets would be a huge pain I think and once in place, that's it, no swapping out marquees. plus I have almost 31 feet available to hang marquees...that would be a lot of mirror brackets

the plate shelf idea is what I was thinking, just trying to do as low a profile as possible

However you mount them it would be cool if you could put a rope light behind them. That's what I have visions of, down the road in my own basement.

Dunno, those brackets in the pics are where my black lights mount. Taken down during the madness. Rope lights would probably conflict with the BL a bit.

Rick S uses a similar solution; white plastic J channel fastened to the bottom, then leans the marquees in. He uses a small piece of double sided tape on each one so that they don't fall.

I did the mirror brackets and it really wasn't much work at all. You can pretty easily remove them as they mount to the drywall with anchors.
like these

If you do the 2 on bottom, one on top.. you only have to mess with the top one if/when you swap marquees.

Like this... takes about 5 minutes per...

Thanks for the input guys, I'll see what I can come up with on the J channel and if I don't like it will try the mirror clips.

pm falcon (pat) hes got hella woodworking stuff.. mabye he could make you some like 1"x4" deep but long strips of wood with that channel in there
then you could mount just some regular metal angle brackets and paint the wholew thing flat black...

I could make them Mike, no problem. I just don't want to work outside in freezer :)

I'm looking for that easy solution, I've got enough projects already! J channel and plastic spray paint...

i heard that!! im sooo glad i have a firnace in my new garage...

now if only i had ebnough room out there to walk mabye id get something done...
