So my buddy has a GT 2005 that needs a board. How does the whole 'complete' package work? Is it a replacement board as well as the hard drive or do you use the existing 2005 board?

Obviously if the board comes with the complete package he'd probably go that route

THanks!

When you buy the Complete upgrade, it comes with the board and hard drive. Keep in mine that if you currently have a green board, you need to get a green Complete board. If you have a red, then a red needs to replace it. They use a different power supply.

So red boards can't be upgraded but the green board can?

Thus if he just wanted to 'fix' his game...and had the red board. it sounds like there should be some available

No No. Im just stating that if you have a red board, than you need to buy another red board to upgrade to. If you have a green board, then when purchasing the upgrade, you need to buy a green board.

Well his 2005 needs a board. So how does one determine what it was. That should be first answer. Then go from there

Thats a good point. You should be able to tell by the power supply. Download the manual from ITs website and it shows a pic of the two different power supplys and determine which one is yours.

Go it..thanks.

He was on the phone with IT yesterday..the board boots but doesn't boot the game even though it detects the HD.

So the big difference in the board is pretty much the power supply connections?

Green Board - It gets it's power like a normal arcade game, via the JAMMA connector.

Red Board - It uses a computer-type power supply.

I have swapped a green with a red, and a red with a green. The key is the power supply. If you are using a green board, you must have power in the JAMMA connector. If you are using a red board in place of a green, you do not need to power the JAMMA.

If you are swapping a green in place of a red, you need to make sure your JAMMA connector has the power wires attached, and you must make sure they are connected to the correct leads on your power supply.

It's not a difficult swap at all, you just need to understand how each gets it's power.

As for the "Complete"....it's all in the board. A "complete" hard drive will work just fine on a "NON-Complete" board, it just won't have the extra courses. I have a COMPLETE hard drive on an "7-course" board....it only plays 7-courses. If I get a "complete" board....I won't need to change the hard drive.

So it just a power rerouting thing between the 2 boards...pretty basic

So the board basically (probably though the security chip?) unlocks whatever course you have the rights to regardless of whats on the drive.

Starting to make sense now...thanks

PS..anyone got a board for sale?

To clarify the power requirements...

1. The RED board uses a 20pin ATX power supply.

2. The GREEN board can power the board through the JAMMA connector but it is NOT recommended by IT. It is recommended use use the power bypass cable connectors to re-route the power around the JAMMA connector. This will help to not burn up the edge connector. The bypass cable is basically a "Y" cable with a few 4pin connectors (think hard drive power connector) that plug directly into green the board and hard drive. The other side is a 9pin connector that plugs into the power supply (AT style). Remember to remove the power wires from the JAMMA connector if you use the bypass.
