A Laserdisk type game I made and I'm sharing..

I found myself fast forwarding through the scenes to get to the moves I hadn't yet done. Thank God for the skip feature or I would never have pushed through it. I had hoped there was a skip feature allowing me to just get to the damn garage so sitting through that was a little tiring for me.

Still, I think for what it is, and the time you put into it, it does what it needs to do.

My suggestion if you're seriously thinking of putting this into the market. Get yourself some newer (or rent) some production gear that's HD, light it properly, get a field sound mixer, some talent, and really push hard with some scripted stories. The concept could go somewhere, just need a polished piece to bring to market.

One thought for what its worth (I hate writing FWIW)... would be to make it more like Dragon's Lair, and less like a Choose your own. Maybe a hybrid of both. Meaning...the dude gets off the phone and gets up, starts walking... the kitchen door flashes, or the game controller flashes in the same scene. You don't have much time to choose. At that point it becomes the 'twitch' dragon's lair type game but also makes you decide faster. If you fail to decide properly then the guy slips and falls, breaks his neck. The thread of dying is more than just the bad guy in the garage (who we never find out who that is by the way). There are dangers everywhere in the house.... death scenes could be pretty funny incorporating things for him to die by accident.

Anyway....maybe the hybrid concept is more like Thayer's Quest where you have choices, but also have the twitch concept.

If you choose to go forth with doing another, those are just some of my thoughts.

Good luck.

The skip feature was something I added in after the first proof was finished and I found myself not liking the wait at all. I figured no one will want to replay it if they have to wait everytime. I did make the video un-skipable for the garage entrance before the final scenes. I didn't want to make it too easy to flip through all the scenes.

The camera we used, keep in mind 7 years ago, was a Panasonic DVX100B 3ccd cam. The full uncompressed video looks pretty good as it did 480p but not wide native. We were not going for production level by any means. It was a single day project with nothing but an idea from the night before in mind. We never scripted it at all. It was all done on the fly. I have HD level cams now and things would be better. Especially if we put it to DVD format.

We planned to do a follow up but life happened. Fast forward 7 years and things are better now. I spoke to my buddy, we are planning another one now. We have half the script done, yes we are scripting and planning so it should be better.

Thanks again for all the positive input. I think this is a fun idea as well and looking back, I know things could of been done much better but again it was just a weekend project. I'm excited about the upcoming episode and I know it will be much better.

I'll post our progress on part 2 as we go..

DVX100A and B were great cameras BITD. Looking forward to seeing the next installment.

Perhaps the story could continue and the opening scene is the lead in bed with his girlfriend and gf's sister. :D
