I have a cap kit for the Nanao monitor, I am wondering if I will also need a flyback/HOT, or will the capkit be fine? The colors are washed out but the monitor works otherwise. Can I remove it from the front, or do I have to remove the back?

Also, do these boards need to be phoenixed? Will it randomly die at some point otherwise?

Finally, my turbo button seems to be disconnected and there is no wire running to it. Where does this hook up and is it just a signal wire/ground or is there some sort of cabling?

Thanks!

Mine has a K7000 in it,

The board will die if you don't replace the battery, then have to swap the encrypted ROMs with the bootleg ROMs.

Obviously it is preferable to swap the battery than use bootleg ROMs. The MAME project might have decrypted the original ROMs since that page was written. If you swap the battery you will want a helper battery as the board will die if you don't.

The info is here.

I have a manual I will look up the wiring on the turbo button tonight.

I have a WG7901 in mine. It's super easy to remove from the back. I've removed my chassis at least a dozen times trying to fix that darn jailbar problem I will have.

I've never replaced the battery on my board either, (I better check on that tonight)

As for the Turbo button, I can check tonight when I get home if no one else answers, maybe post a photo. I just wish my turbo button would light up.

I better make sure I have a Nanao, but I thought I checked that already? Either way, she's pretty washed out.

I don't know, check your board, mine doesn't have the suicide battery on it. Sega started around 1987 using them. This board set is dated 1986. (at least not that I can see)

The battery is inside the chip...

Right, but it's a thick 1/2" size chip with NEC on it isn't it?
There are a good number of Super Hang-on with a normal CPU.
They look like this. I would call this a non-protected board.
Correct me if I am wrong please!

Phet, here is a quick photo of the schematic, and you can see there should be a red and black wire.

It might have been hacked by the op to use the handlebars as ground...

OK, thanks for the schematic, but I'm still not clear on the turbo button. Mine seems to do nothing and I can't see any wires connected to it. If there were, is there a conduit they are supposed to run thru, or just the handlebar/steering shaft? Oh and I do in fact have a K7000 in here. Not sure why I thought it was a Nanao. I actually cleaned the monitor, adjusted it and now it looks great, though I should probably cap it. I am afraid to actually, as I don't wanna blow the flyback (white knobber) and HOT since it is currently working fine. I am using this for trade bait, so I really don't feel like overhauling the whole machine anymore. Also, looking at my board, it looks like Steve's. I don't see any suicide pack on it.

That is great news about the board, I still need to reach in the coin door and undo the side lock on mine to check for a battery.

On mine there is a wire coming off the back of the button, I will take a photo tonight. Just to make sure, did you know that turbo button does nothing until you reach the max speed and your speed starts flashing red?

I did not know that. Thanks.

OK, so I am still a bit confused. I took the Turbo assembly off the bars and swung the bar assembly open. I am apparently missing some stuff. I also have no idea how to get wires inside this turbo button assembly and where they would even hook up if I could get them in:

Woah! You sure are missing stuff. I will take some photos of mine tonight.

If you use a flat blade screwdriver the square red turbo button will pop out.

Excellent, That's what I needed to know. Now to see where it hooks up into the harness and how the wires are routed into the game. I assume there is conduit used?
